That situation changed dramatically in the final period of play. Early in the fourth quarter, Cyprus was again knocking on the door of the East endzone. As Cyprus drove in from the East line, defender Inoke Hafoka stripped the pigskin from the Cyprus runner and streaked the fumble recovery 96 yards to paydirt. With the shutout victory over Hunter, Cyprus Junior gained a 3 overall record in 2001 Ute conference football action. Early in the game, a close defensive struggle appeared to be developing. As the game wore on however, Cyprus turned the giidiron tilt into a runaway win. Hunter's tough goal-lin- e defense recoverd a fumble at the line to halt the opening Cyprus drive. Only a pair of plays later, Cypres Junior's defense stood tall as poto Finau tackled the e Hunter quaterback in the for a safety. The fu st quarter ended with Cyprus clinging to a slin 2 - 0 lead. an 1 yard touchdown run by Derek Dilley increased the Cyprus advantage in second 1 end-zon- 1 -- quarter action. The successful PAT run by Ieli Tupouniua gave Cyprus a 9 - 0 halftime margin. Cyprus soared ahead 15 - 0 in the third quarter when defender Anthony Gleave alertly pounced in a Hunter fumble in the endzone.
