Matheson Junior High to the Granite School District for the 2002-200- 3 school year will mean the subtraction of students at seven West Side junior highs to balance student populations. Proposed new boundaries for the junior high schools were presented to the Granite School Board Tuesday evening. "What we have tried to do is distribute and bal currently attend Brockbank, Hunter and Jefferson junior high schools. The boundaries will begin at 6400 West and 3500 South and go west to 8400 West and south to 5400 South and then east to following Hwyl 5420 West. The new junior high will encompass students from Copper Hills, Orchard, and Silver Hills ele- ance the student populations throughout the district," said Jerry Pulsipher, director of Planning and Boundaries for the district. "The magic number that we came up with was to have 1 ,100 students or fewer at each junior high school." Since May, Pulsipher and Assistant Superintendent McKell Whithers met community councils and principals to redraw the school boundaries to include Matheson for the 2002 school year. Matheson Junior High will receive students that 1 1 mentary schools. t extend east to 5600 West. It will pick up students from West Valley Elementary school, which students were previously attending Hunter Junior High School. Hunter Junior High school will begin at 6400 West and extend east to 400 West. I vj in Magna businessman passes away peacefully Alfred Orlando Anderson II, 83, passed away peacefully Sept. 2. He married LaVerla Richards Nov. 12,' 1937, and their marriage was solemnized June 27, 1938 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was bom' April 26, 1918 to Alfred Orlando Anderson 1, and Ellen Laura Sessions Anderson in Burley, Idaho. A powerful, determined and intelligent man, there was no task he couldn't accomplish. Yet, dad was also compassionate, forgiving and more than willing to help others. He was a flight instructor who self-taug- Hours after a lone gunman busted into the Cyprus Credit Union 3500 South in Magna he turned himself in to The Salt Lake County Jail. Joseph Martinez Jr, 20, of Magna, walked into the Credit Union Thursday, Aug. 29, at 10 a.m., drew a gun and ordered everyone to get down on the floor before demanding money from bank tellers., . !When he was about to enter the bank one of the . . bank employees was walking out," said DeL Jeff Lone. "He pulled his gun out of a plastic bag and pushed the employee back into the bank." Although the robber was wearing a blue bandanna across the bottom of his face, a hat and wore sunglasses, bank tellers told Sheriff's deputies that they thought they knew him as a former credit union member. Martinez, whose pictures were caught on the credit union's security cameras, left the premises on foot and ran south through the Arbor Park shopping center and neighborhood. "Following leads from the bank tellers we contacted two different people but didn't have enough evidence to make an arrest at that time," said Deputy Peggy Faulkner, spokeswoman for the Sheriffs Department. Just after 2 p.m. that afternoon, Martinez turned arrived at the Salt Lake County Jail and turned along with the undisclosed amount of money stolen from the bank. "This never happens," Faulkner said. "This was his first offense and is pretty serious." He was arrested and booked into county jail for one felony count of aggravated robbery. He remains in custody on $20,000 bail. The credit union robbery is among eight that have struck the Valley in the past two weeks. On Tuesday, a man robbed two Salt Lake County east-sid- e banks within 90 minutes of each other yesterday. According to Faulkner.the suspect was arrested Wednesday afternoon. Details of the suspects identity was not released by presstime In both Incidents the man entered the bank handing a note to the teller demanding money or he would shoot them. In both robberies the tellers gave the man the money and he fled. The first robbery occurred at 4 p.m. at the US Bank Holladay branch located at 1898 East 4800 South. At this robbery the dye pack exploded as the suspect was leaving the bank, so he dropped the money. He fled in a stolen car, which he abandoned a few blocks away. The second robbery occurred at 5: 15 PM at the Washington Mutual Bank at 4041 South 700 East. After leaving the bank in this robbery the suspect fled on foot into an apartment complex to the east of the bank. ht POOR COPY ) touched many lives.
