Magna Main Street become host to an arts and crafts fair, including a variety of food booths Friday beginning at 4 p.m. The final day of Copper Days, Aug. 11 will feature a full day of entertainment, the craft fair, a horseshoe tournament, SK run and the traditional Senior Breakfast, craft fair and bake sale. "We have a lot of activities planned for the Gmann Entertainment with Gene "The King". ' The tradition of Copper Days began as a way to bring people into the Downtown area and become familiar with the Magna's history as well as bring the small community together in remembering its past mining heritage. Copper Days was founded in 988 by the Magna Arts Council as a way to bring the Magna phurches and civic organizations together and build pride in the community and community spir-i- t, politicians and celebrities into Magna. 1 he current Copper Days Committee, continues to contribute to the community in tradition and values by doing park maintenance and beaulfica-tion- s projects along Magna Main Street. The committee sponsors Carl Clark Senior Park, Copper Hill Park, the new horseshoe pit park and the mini park adjacent to the Empress Theatre. Members of the Salt Lake County Council will hold the first meeting tonight, Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Salt Lake County Fire Magna Training Center, 3535 South 8400 West. The second hearing will be held directly following the Aug. 14 meeting of the Salt Lake County Council in Council Chambers of the County Government Center, 2001 S. State St in Salt Lake City. The County Council meeting begins at 4 p.m and typically lasts from one to two hours in duration. Residents who wish to speak at the County Council meeting are urged to be at the County Building at 4 p.m. The two public hearings will give members of the community a opportunity to voice opinions on the township plan and gather more information from members of the County Council and the Magna Area Council as well as testify for or against the creation of the township. . "Creating a township will give the citizens a sense of more control over in their affairs," said County Councilman Michael Jensen said. "We're taking government closer to the people." The push for township status in Magna began in February when members of the Area Council began to look at alternatives to the incorporation effort. The proposed Magna township will include all of the residential area of Magna between SR201 and 4100 South and include a major portion of the Great Salt Lake, including Saltaire and As a township, Magna would still be an unincorporated entity of Salt Lake County. Auto thefts, where contents were stolen from a vehicle has increase to 196 in 2001 compared to 176 in 2000. Vandalism reports were down to 178 in 2001 from a reported 323 in 2000.
