Amos, associate vice president for health sciences at the University of Utah and former dean of the U of U College of Nursing. The Sister Bernadette Armiger award was presented to Amos in Washington D.C., during the annual conference of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. The award has been given biennially since 1982 to recognize a nursing leader who has made significant contributions to the AACN and its goals, to nursing education, and to the advancement of the pro- Nursings Role in Happy Birthdays Mrs. Health Care Irene Day Feulner observed her 103rd birthday Monday, Nov. 20, at her home in West Valley City. She was surrounded by her Delivery, which brought together the presidents and executive directors of AACN, ANA, and the National League for Nursing. Amos, who holds a doctorate in education as well as being a registered nurse, served as dean of the U nursing college for 20 years before stepping down in June. She came to Utah from the Boston University children and their spouses. Mrs. Feulner was born in School of Nursing where she was professor and nursing dean for five years. She holds the Ida May "Dotty" Bames, R.N., and D. Keith Bames, M.D., Presidential Endowed Chair in the College of Nursing. During Amos leadership, nursing education at the U reflected the dramatic change and expansion of the profession. The college has been ranked in the top 10 percent of graduate nursing' schools by U.S. News and World Report and ranks 32nd in the amount of research being done. A longtime1 leader in national professionals groups, Amos is chair of the Commission on Collegiate fession. Sister Bernadette was dean and professor of nursing at the Niagara University College of Nursing, New York, and also served as the third president of AACN. In this position she was instrumental in forming the alliance between AACN and the American Nurses Association, as well as the Inter organization Committee fro Implementation of Irene Feulner Hunter, now West Valley City, on Nov. 20, 1897, to Laronzo and Elizabeth Jane Russell Day. She is the last surviving child of five who reached adulthood. As one of the oldest residents of the county, Mrs. Feulner has lived in three centuries. She graduated in a class of five from Hunter School, later named Whittier, now the oldest elementary school in the Granite School District. Despite many transportation problems she also graduated in 1918 from Granite High School, the only high school in the county at that time. On May 21, 1919, she married Emil Feulner in the Salt Lake Temple. They established the Alfalfa Ridge Farm in Hunter. They also had fruit orchards that surrounded the home where she still lives. Mr. Feulner died on Aug. 18, 1974.
