Before the negotiators could set up, Walsh exited the rear door of the house and confronted a patrol officer in die backyard. Walsh had a rifle and shotgun in his hand when he stepped from the house. He then released the Rottweiler at the officer in the backyard. As the dog charged, the officer gave repeated commands for Walsh to recall the dog but Walsh refused. At a distance of two feet, the officer fired one round from his weapon killing the dog instantly. Walsh then surrendered and was taken into custody. Walsh was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for possession of a firearm by a restricted person, intoxication, and disorderly con- duct benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake.
