July 20, 2000 5 Hunter-Cypru- s Sports advance to state tourney all-sta- rs Brighton edges Hunter Cyprus By ALAN BLAIN Ttaff Writer The Hunter-Cypru- s Secondary Team advanced to Minor All-Stthe state tournament with an exciting 6 win over Riverton to clinch third place in the District Tournament The third place finish allowed Hunter-Cypru- s to advance to the state tournament which opened last Saturday. In their opening game in the District Tournament, Hunter-Cypru- s ar 7-- faced off with Alta Canyon. A.fter a solid pitching performance by Jason Hardman and Cody Arnold, who held Alta Canyon to seven runs, Colton Goodfellow collected the game winning hit to give Hunter-Cypr- a 8-- win. Going into their final at 7 s bat trailed by a run before clutch base hits by Ryan Cobbley and Cody Butler. The Hunter-Cypru- clutch hits set the stage for Goodfellow s heroics. In their second game against Taylorsville, Hunter-Cypru- s gave up a lot of runs early before battling back. Clint Shepard, Chris Peel, and Cody Butler provided the offensive fire power but the early hole they dug for themselves was just to deep as Taylorsville prevailed In their next game against West Jordan the pressure was on for both clubs with the loser being eliminated from the tournament.
