Canada and Norway went to overtime before settling who had the best paralympic ice hockey players in the world! It was by far the best game I have seen in a long time. Now I know that SLOC took a lot of heat for doing things that have been done since the beginning of time, but this is one thing that they did perfectly right. From marketing, to hospitality of players, referees, and media, as well as those who came to the games, to getting the spectators into the seats to draw more fans into the game than any nation and sledge event has ever done, they did everything right. At first, I thought that filling the the with students for the 11:30 games without the US ever getting to have the response that those kids make (it was like the Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, and Brittney Spears holding a simultaneous concert, the shreaks were deafening) was a mistake. But after talking to the players that played in those games, I realized it was the perfect move. It made the other teams feel like they were not alone Ln this country with no backing or support Canada obviously had their followers make the trip, but I didnt see very many Europeans or Japanese spectators not associated with the team. The school kids took to the teams as if they were citizens of that nation, and, in turn, the players took to the students. The greatest scene was after the game on Japan-Swede- Friday afternoon, when the JapanefstJ team stayed on the ice for at least ten minutes after the final horn tad sounded saluting those schools that came to see THEM play. It was so amazing, especially when the students saluted them in return by doing Japanese patriotic JAPANESE! rally chants-IN What sportsmanship! What devotion to a sport that, unfortunately,- is there for those how do not have the blessing of full lower body function. Talk about humility, these players have it They are the only group of athletes I have seen in recent history that know that in order to keep fans, you need to treat them right What a refreshing breath of fresh air in a world where even the Olympics have become nothing more than extended seasons or two-wevacations for stuck-ugreedy professional athletes who only care about themek p, selves. - Another reason I sing this groups praises is because they compete and they fight for everything in a game, in practice, and in training. The game is fast, with more break-awathan you see in any professional game, and ten times the emotion.
