BLODGETT EDITOR Pamella Ostmark, president and CEO of Valley West Chamber of Commerce, has been named to direct the marketing committee for an Olympic test event - known as Sledge Hockey to the world and Sled Hockey to the USA. The new sports event - which is rapidly becoming a popular event worldwide - will be featured at the in West Valley City when the local ice rink hosts the sled Ice 20-2- 5. Sled Hockey is an ice hockey event for disabled athletes, those who have no physical use of their legs - or only one or no legs. Players are fitted in a sitting position in a small sled which is barely long enough to fit their body contour. The sled has two skate blades located under the seat for mobility. Players use a long hockey stick - used both to propel the sled as well as to pass and hit the puck. Rules are basically the same as in regular ice hockey, points are scored the same, protective gear is similar, and its a game. The 2000 Ice Sled Hockey World Championships will represent six nations. This tournament will feature ten different brackets. They include 5th-6t- h grade girls; 7th grade boys; 7th grade girls; 8th grade boys; 5th-6t- h h h grade boys; 8th grade girls; grade boys; grade girls; grade boys; grade girls. All grades are based on the grade which the student is currently enrolled. The entry fee for the tournament is $90 and guarantees each team a minimum of two games. There will be awards presented in each bracket.
