Lessons Leap year babies at Pioneer From Jr. Jazz (Part One) Valley By KEITH LOBDELL EDITOR West Valley City, Utah- - Four babies were bom at Pioneer Valley Hospital on February 29. They were among the first leap year btbies of the century At 14.44 p m. Lynn and Jeff Anderson became the proud parents of their 1 2th child, a boy Isaiah Anderson Isaiah was the only of the four bom on the 29th who was actually due on the 29th. At 6.54 p m. It has been a pnv and an honor to work w ith the Junior Jazz this season, and I have nothing but positives to say about the areas supervisors that I have had the pleasure to work for over the past few months. Coaching is something I have not done since before my mission. Next season I hope to be coaching at the high school level, but well see. Anyways, I think the last two weeks have brought us prime examples of what is right and I ents of Segura. 4 I t I " Momrnm Newborns of the Leap Its not Year... easy. But what makes Mr. Oversons crime even worse is that he then threatened to use his power as a County head to ax every supers isor and ref at the school. Now you may be sorry and regretful for doing that, but this falls into the John Rocker rule: you said it, you meant it then, you should be accountable for that. I dont go and blackball every ref that makes 3 bad call. Have I not agreed with a call-ye- s. Have I gotten upset with a referee-o- f course. Have I raised my voice in an officials I'm a coach. Its my right to do that, not the fans. What makes junior sports so hard for fans is the fact that all the fans are related to the children on the court. Let your kids play the gamfrjitftay out of the way!! I hate io skidds in the middle of a gamt (JVCc to their parents for infotfriatiori during a time-oand not to .the Coaches. Parents, you may be wrong about some things. I know coaches are wrong, too. The fact of the matter is that the coaches been given stewardship over your children to teach them die game of whatever their playing at the time. If you dont like it, then get up off the bleachers and grab a coaches book. Parents,' please, teach your children that winning is not the only thing. When it comes to the Junior Jazz, Vmce Lombardi is a moron. I love the fact that my players (well, almost ail my players) can still go off the court after being blown out by 30 or more points. They have fun. They dont care what their record is, they got the chance to play and have some fun and compete, and for the most part, they have competed. The problem is the one who has had winning drilled into him so hard that he leaves the court pouting and taking it out on his team and his coach. for. If you need to Thats win that bad, play super league, but this is not the place for that Pioneer Valley on newborns Hospitals February 29, 2000, clockwise, starting in upper right: - New Mother Jill ' I A fe ' V jj" new Leap Year baby v boy, t w. Unfortunately, Brent Overson, Salt Lake County Commissioner and a man that has done a lot for the Magna area, leads off as the poster man for bad sportsmanship among parents. I may be wrong, but there is never, ever, a good reason to be thrown out of a game especially as a spectator. What drives anyone to such a level? Bad referee calls? If stripes on and call a game. a Mother Carey Drag with Leap Year son Nathan Allen. |
