The dream season came to an end with the Cougars compiling a sparkling 23-- 1 record on the year. Its not like anything Ive ever seen as a coach or as an athlete, said Kearns coach Bob Ostberg. Its an extremely competitive and gifted bunch of kids. They are competitive and confident. Ostberg also noted the players coming off the bench as a key reason for Kearns winning the state title. The quality of players coming off our bench was a key reason for us winning the state title. I couldnt be more proud of our whole team. The state title was the first for the Lady Cougars m the history of the school. With the with just Cougars leading 42-4- 1 over nine seconds to play Clearfield set up a play to put the ball into the hands of their star Jennie Overdiek. Kearns played excellent defense on Overdiek who got off a jumper as time expired. The ball bounced off the front of the rim as the Lady Cougars, Coaches and fans went 15-fo- ot crazy. Its hard to finally see its said senior Nicole (Shorty) Montoya. But the championship feeling will last a lifetime. Junior Kellie Parker finished the game with 17 points, hitting five Montoya finished with 8 points over, while Chelsey and two DeLaMare scored 8 points. Heather Little finished the game pouring in 6 points for the champs. It really hasnt sunk in yet, said Little. We are so lucky to have a coach like coach Ostberg. He has taught us so much and we all know his way is the right way.J Sophomore Eric Brown praised her coach saying Hes the best coach Ive ever had and its great to win the state title my first year. With only one starter graduating this year the Cougars will be a force to reckoned with for year to cr ne.
