Mountain Crest, Logan, and swim team captured their fust state swimming title while the girls team made their school and community proud by finishing second. Led by coach Joe Periera and an awesome crowd of fans, the boys Springville. The final team standings for the girls included Murray, Cyprus, Timpview, Lone Peak, Highland, and Logan. Individual and team competition winners for the boys included; a second place finish for Jaren Hayes in the 100 butterfly, a third place finish for Ryan Okelberry in the 500 freestyle, a second place finish for the boys 200 freestyle relay team, a third place finish for Shad Bracken in the 100 breastroke, and a state team roared back from second place with a total team effort to capture the championship. The boys team took the title edging Murray High School by a score of 314.5 to 298. On the other hand the girls team narrowly missed win- ning the title losing to Murray 249.5 to 243. "We've spent years getting stuck at the bump," said Periera. "We finally got over it." Periera was referring to the fact that the Pirates have finished second five times title for the 400 freestyle relay during his coaching career at Cyprus. Periera was named coach of the year for both the boys and the girls teams. By Alan Blain Staff Writer HioSet provided by Rob Senders Magna Youth competing in Miss Jr Teen Salt Lake City Pageant Keshia Dee Talbot of Magna was recently selected to participate in Nationals 2000 Miss Jr. Teen Salt Lake City Pageant competition that will take place on March 4, 2000. Keshia teamed of her acceptance into this years competition as Nationals' Inc. announced their selections on monday afternoon. Keshia submitted an application and took part in an interview session that was conducted by Patty Neidert, this years Salt Lake City Pageant Coordinator. Keshia will be competing for her share of over $20,000 in scholarships, prizes, and specialty gifts that will be distributed to contestants. If Keshia were to win the title of Miss Jr. Teen Salt Lake City, she would represent Salt Lake City and the surrounding communities at the National Championships that will take place in Orlando, Florida. Over $ 60,000 in prizes and awards will be presented at Nationals. In her spare time Keshia enjoys painting, soccer and basketball. |
