'4' By LuCINDA TIMMERMAN With winter now upon us, the cold weather does not seem to have an effect on the warm hearts in town, and it seems unfair to have these good people go without being recognized. The Chamber of Commerce held the Sanda Parade on Saturday and all of the children that went to see Santa were given a candy bar that the S council had provided. Ralph Brimley is President of the Town Council. A lot of hours go into a Christmas celebration, and Brimley and Brent Huish were helping not only with the planning of the parade, but also with making certain that the lines waiting for Santa were a short wait and well organized. The Cyprus High Band played in the parade, and then when the other school bands were getting on the bus for home. Cyprus played a few Christmas Carols while people waited for Santa in Arbor Park parking lot. The Kennecott Unions pay for a Christmas movie and a bag of candy that the elementary schools have every year. The L D. S. Wards each hold a special Christmas dinner for the members. Pat Nageli and Floyd Neilson have many Christmas activities for the Senior Citizens. The Center is also decorated for Christmas beautifully. There are also those of us in town who have been the recipient of a secret Santa at our door, and dont forget all the walkways that have been cleared by the neighbor boy next door . There are also many beautiful Christmas trees in the schools that students have decorated, some of these trees go to needy families the week that school is let out for Christmas vacation. We at the Magna Times also have our Christmas Tradition of being a direct line for Santa to read his many letters, and letters to Santa are published durinng December. We have done this since 1937. He then placed the money in a white kitchen garbage bag, and fled on foot going northboundon8400 W. Taco Time was the victim of a burglary on Saturday, December 4. No one was working at the Taco Time, when a suspect broke in to a store. The Sheriffs Deputys are working on what happened. No money was taken, but about $500 in food and supplies were taken. Sheriff Deputies are able to get an excellent set of fingerprints from the store. I spoke with Captain Sunquist of the West division for the Salt Lake County Sheriff. He is over the Magna area. Even with the two robberies and the burglary at the Taco Time, Magna is not going through anything different than the rest of the state. Captain Sunquist told us that during the Holiday season armed robberies go up and especially vehicle burglaries go up twice as much as during any other time of year. is The Sheriffs Department on and these hard cases, working very they have also increased manpower in .the Magna area. All the reserve deputys are on duty now in the late afternoon and evening. They are also asking for our help. Keep your homes and cars locked, if you see anything suspicious call the sheriffs office. Be aware of what goes on around you. 6, 1939 CHATTERBOX Explanation. ..We have been asked by several friends why we didnt enter suit, or sempin, against the Senator from Sandpit, columnist of the Salt Lake Tribune for slandering our paper and calling it the Magna Blabber and the Mud Slinger. The truth of the is there was a publication issued as our supposed to be comic Christmas Card, in the form of a miniture newspaper. Therefor in no way did the Senators statement reflect on the Magna Times. In fact, a comment from the esteemed gentlemen, according to Puck Seay, is a quite a compliment. Christmas love m m The Santa Parade The Santa Parade came to town last Saturday. The parade is sponsored by the town council and Brent Huish was incharge of the parade this year. The Cyprus Band and Spinnikers marched this year along with Kennedy Junior High Band and Vickis Dance and Drill Team from Magna. Then of course Mr. Claus was riding on the ladder truck from the Magna fire station. The children who came to see the parade then got a chance to say hello to Santa at the Zions Bank Building in Arbor Park. A very special thanks goes to the sheriffs department who led the parade to Arbor Park. See inside for pictures. We have been authorized to be a soccer or i use to.
