Jim and Captain Long John Silver had the Saltair name put under copyright, and then got a 40 year license from the state on the land, a grandaddy lease with no building restrictions All this is in hopes to rebuild the old Saltair. Then about two years ago Jim spoke with Wally Wnght (the owner of Trolly Square) and Stewart Grow (a aau Lane realtor). These men along with Jim and John Silver put up the financial backing The Saltair resort was no longer to be a part of the past. One of the first things done was to go up to Hill Air Force base and buy hangar 218. They took it apart piece by piece and brought it to the lake. The old hanger was the exact deminsions as the old pavillion. The builders refer to original blue print often The work is hopefully to be complete on the pavillion in November. Last summer over 800,000 people visited the beach, and so far this summer Jim told me over one million people have come to Saltair. The beach will be open all year round, but the rides will close as soon as the weather turns cold The pavillion however will be open all year round when finished. Remember the dances at the old Saltair Pavillion? Well, the new pavillion will have a 3000 square foot dance floor, specialty sliops, theater, ice cream parlor and a sea food restraunt. A lot of visitors to the beach have complained about the brine flys. Jim said how the construction digs up all the flys in the sand and how next summer new clean sand will be brought in from Lake Point Sand Company. September 11, will be the biggest event of the season on the outdoor beach area Its the three day beach party with live bands, a beauty contest, and Utahs biggest fireworks display with $20,000 worth of fireworks in 20 minutes. The development is great and right in our own backyard., If you would like more information call the Saltair resort. This week e Magna the old Saltair return , a landmark in our own backyard.
