Show CONVICTS STRUNG TO WALL thirty inmates of state prison of utah go on strike salt lake city alleging that the tood food supplied to them by the state ot of utah was wholly inadequate to their needs poorly cooked and indifferent t ly served about thirty convicts at the state prison went on strike wednesday morning by midnight all but twenty had surrendered eighteen of the twenty were handcuffed to the walla walls of cells in the lower tier ot of the south cell house and two others placed in the dark cells the twenty were sock less and deprived ot of locomotive powers but they were not it is believed the men intended to make an effort to escape but that they simply did not want to work in addition to the discomfort of being handcuffed to the wall and limit ed to bread and water diet the twenty men will lose all their copper or time deducted tor for good behavior in some cases this amounts to a consid erable period ot of time the warden has the power tol to remove it but not to restore it that authority being vested in the board ot of pardons |
