S government today gave up efforts to deport Mrs. Iva Toguri the Tokyo Rose of d'Aquino, Wot Id War II. Immigration dire c t o r Bruce Barber announced that a depor- tation warrant against her has been cancelled in view of recent decisions by the U. S. Supreme Court. The warrant was issued Jan. 27, 1956, but Barber said proceedings were delayed to await clarification of the law by the high tribunal. Urder a recent decision, he said, she did not lose her citizenship prior to her treason conviction. Since she was a citizen at the date of her last entry int o the country, Mrs. D'Aquino is not now deportable under the warrant, he said. Mrs. DAquino was convicted of treason after the war because of her broadcasts from Tokyo seeking to lure American GIs into deserting. She was returned to the U. S. in 1948 by allied military authorities and served sv and one hall sentence in years of a federal womens prison in Alder-soW V.
