This would1 not only furnish employ ment for many, but it would make the cash paid for wood stav at home. Another thing, a wood pile, a chross cut saw and an ax will furnish helpful exercise for a young man during the winter season, and even college students will find it to their advantage to spend a little time each day, so occupied, as it has a wonderful effecf in developing the muscles and otherwise preparing them physically for their mental duties. Mr. Editor, if this is not good economy, please tell us why? j rcM On Sunday evening, William Mitten cf Pa'adisr, who had been trrubled with the piesence of a polecat on his premises, loaded up a shotgun in order to exterminate the animal. The shell was too small for the gun, and in tiy-in- g to press it into the shooting iron, it exploded, blowing the gun to pieces, and a piece of brass struck him and mbedded itself in ms foiehead He was brought to Logan. Bishop Christian Larsen of the 7th Ward figuied out something for the people to do. He wrote the following to the Journal. In view of the hard times that are upon us, and that the present fall and winter promise to be seasons in which the most of us wlll have to practice economy through necessity, would it not be well to study ways and means by which this can be accomplished, and at the same time help one another through the depression late For instance, during years we have been in the habit of buying coal for our winter supply. and not a very small sum of money has yearly been sent out of the county for this purpose. Now the question is, could we not this season let somebody else buy coal and we here in Logan and THE DEATH OF A prominent citizen of Logan is published in the same paper as the above, the Journal for September 6, 1893. The funeral service for Ilyrum Maughan was held yesterday in the 5th Ward Meeting House. The crowd was far to great to find seats for admittance. Very appropriate and consoling remarks vere made by Apostle Moses Thatcher, Pies Simpson M Molen and Bishops Crookston and Maughan.
