Is th 30 ACTIVITY Activity increasing rapidly at Iron Springs. At the mines the 700 foot tunnel that the Columbia Steel company decided was necessary for the proper handling of the ore output hag been started, the contract for the work of driving it having been let to Edward and Walter Spencer, local men, Parrynow who have a double shift of men at work. They plan to have the 700 feet completed within the next two months and that the entire tunnel will be made 8x8 feet dimensions inside the timbering. Shafts are being sunk in various sections of the ground owned by the Columbia Steel company, which show excellent ore almost from the surface. The company has drilled a well below the Younger townsite, laid piping from there to the mines, a distance of about of a mile, erected large tanks into which pumps force the water, and from these tanks the water runs by gravity to the various works of the company and to the Columbia Steel townsite. Two large buildings have been greeted to be used as compressor plants for the operation of the machine drills. The equipment, which is no on the ground, will be installed this week. The compressed air will be made by means of electricity, and sincethe Dixie Power company now has the line ready for use both at the minesand at the springs and lias completed the erection of the distributing station, everything is nearly ready for the beginning of mining operations. This week the erection of a large boarding-housfor the employes of the company at present fifty in number and soon to be increased to is to be begun. The seventy-fiv- e company also has a crew of carpenters building smalL houses to be used by the officials of the company. The workmen are at present living in tents and will continue so until the boarding house is completed. In addition to the boarding house for the use of workers, a number of small bungalows will be built, to be occupied by the married men and their families. The Union Pacific has the grading nearly completed for the spur running from Iron Springs to the mine, and will commence the laying of steel very soon. is tf We call and deliver.
