Silver is due for a slump at least a temporary one and the change from the Pittman price to that prevailing on the foreign market is sure to mean a slowing up of mining oiperations throughout the westj Local operators are quite optimistic and declare that the pros- the Tintic District is not be seriously interrupted, is no question but what the output of all our mines will be reduced because much low grade silver orel which has been handled profitably with silver bringing $1 an ounce,! cannot be shipped if that metal dobs not advance above the present foreign price, Many who have given the matter serious thought say that the price of silver cannot long remain at its present low point on the foreign market (hat the metal is due for an advance because it must; be used by foreign countries to back up paper money which is being put out in such quantities that financial Conditions are demoralized-- ! but it may take some little time to bring about a readjustment and during that time silver producing mining camps will suffer to Some extent although they have existed and prospered with silver lower than it is liable to be following the suspension of the Pittman act. Early in the week the officials of the Chief ; Consolidiated Mining Co. posted notices at their various properties stating that all silver ore shipped after May 30th, which was, last Wednesday, would most likely carry the foreign price. This notice was given because information from the U. S. mint indicates tlat jthere is now enough silver at the mills and smelters of the country to replace that sold during the war. Of course no definite information on this matter will not be received for a few days, until the figures have been compiled, but. there is no question but what there has been a veritable stream of silver going forward during the past few weeks. Ibis accounts for the termination of the Pittman act price much sooner than expected. Silver producers in all parts of the country have been crowding operations, trying to get as much ore as possible on the market, while the metal was good for one dollar an ounce. We have had a striking example of this in the Tintic District where train loads of silver ere have been hauled out every day.- - Eureka Reporter. provo, Utah.'
