A man who does reckless stunts is a fool and takes his life in his hands. My stunts may deem dangerous, but they are merely the working out of a careful plan and a study of the stunt itself. Take a stunt I did recently in jumping from a motor car which goes over an embankment. I jump before the car turns over. Now. that is a case of figuring beforehand the fact that the car will turn over and the time to jump and land safely. After figuring this, the idea is to be wide awake and be in a position to Jump when the right moment arrives. Really, its like walking across and Broadway in Manhattan. Known to the world at large as a man of unusual nerve and unafraid of hazardous undertakings, Tom Mix, the William Fox star, who comes to the Columbia theater Saturday in The FightingcStreak, has defined the word nerve after having been requested to do so. An acquaintance of Mix told him. the public would like to know why and how he had so much nerve. Yet the stars answer would make it seem that he is just an ordinary man. UTAH day. Health experts from half a dozen states were present as were a number of federal health officials. Dr. Merrill reports the conference one of the most interesting ever conducted in this state. The White Plague, was the principal subject discussed. James H. Wallis, executive secretary of the association, read his annual report in which the work of the association for the last year was reviewed. Mr. Wallis said the Traveling Health Clinic maintained by the association had found that the tuberculosis problem had reached a stage which made it imperative for the people of Utah to establish a sanatorium. Of tne first 2'0 diagnosed cases he were Utah said, more than one-hal- f born. This, Mr. Wallis said, dispose of the argument that all U'tah tuber- nil a i s Is Imported. And hen Id os thee cases which we have examined we know that there are 200 deaths annually in this state from tuberculosis. This means that there are 2000 active tuberculosis cases in the state today. After urging that the public give united support to the proposal for a sanatorium, Mr. Wallis spoke of the work of the home and school nursing organizations. This work, he said, ! being neglected. It Is to be regretted, he declared, that in some school districts school nurses have been relieved from duty because of the cry of excessive taxation. Mr. Wallis reviewed the results of the Modern Health Crusade in the schools, saying that it had been so successful that dental service would ite provided wherever possible next year. In closing he appealed for support for the Christmas Seal campaign. Until public funds are available, he explained, health work Is dependent on the seal sales for support. It must be carried on. Dr. Warren A. Colton, of the United States public health service gave statistics on Utah tuberculosis In support of the statements made by Mr. Wallis. ...... 15c 11 A. M.
