BOY SAVED BERNARD big dog plunges into orleans and holds child out of water little ralph johnson son of a peddler of new or eans had the honor of bing saved b a st bernard dog to whom he as an utter stranger at valenca street and st charles avenue peterlee peter aee was recently be ng con when the workmen quit the well for the night the manhole was left open mrs johnson with her boy three years old and wearing a dress were in the vicinity the mother tr ing to sell laces while the mother had pone to a house in the block the child rama ned on the sidewalk tor awhile and then wall ed to the man ho e and peered into it accidentally be tell in the child screamed loudly for help but being six feet under the groina no one heard his cries just at this time as old milkman pt ased with him was a great st ber nard dog the dog heard the cries of the child and tor a second could not locate them the child cried again and this t me the dog plunged into tho well and seized the s clothing in its mouth the dog held the little boy above the water until both dog and child evere ho sted out of the manhole by passers by the dog then trotted after the old milkman as though mg a child s lif were ao everyday q i currence
