DO OR DIE PRINCESS TONIGHT The prodigality of leading motion picture producers is a matter of com-- I mon knowledge today. A fortune Is spent sometimes to procure a certain effect. Towns are erected for a few hours screening, then demolished. Thousands of auxiliaries are used to put over but one scene in a picture. But it remained for William Fox to show a new way to burn np a lot of good money in order that Blind Wives, which will open an engagement at the Columbia theater, beginning next Thursday and Friday, might present a scene of splendor heretofore unequalled In any screen production. The scene, which represents the zero hour at Luciles (Lady Duff Gordon) exclusive fashion shop in New York required that the stunning models who flit like birds 6f gay plumage throughout the presentation of this world-fame- d fashion show wear gowns that were absoluteand In ly creations no way reminiscent or suggestive of anything In miladys mode that had ever been shown to feminine eyes before. Mr. Fox promptly ordered that a complete set of new gowns be made at once for the models, and that they represent to the very last degree the tendencies of the couturiers art. The result Is one of the most gorgeous ensembles in the history of the motion picture art. In the midst of this bewildering exhibition sits a woman who, though the possessor of a myriad of lovely gowns at home, considers her proposed visit to the annual horse show an impossibility unless she has added a new and costly outfit ot her collection. How this woman Is eventually brought to a realization of her debt to the society she has outraged Is told in one of the most forceful narratives yet presented on the American screen. The story of Blind''' Wives Is adapted from Edward Knoblocks international stage success, My Lady's Dress, which ran for eleven months' In London, was revived later, captured Paris and New York, and has been hailed as Its- brilliant author's most highly artistic product.
