For Justice Soprano Conrt Early in 1917 the present Democratic governor publicly announced that if the legislature. which was then in iession .would grant him an appropriation of $25,000 forthe investigation of state offices and - departments he would turn back to the Mate treasury $100 for every $1 expended.' The appropriation was granted and was familiarly known as -- 100 to 1 Shot.. Special auditors were employed and the larger part of this appropriation expended without any re- suits, and in 1919 another appropriation of $16,000 was made . for this same purpose and this money is now being spent at the rate of $1,000 per month by an auditor imported from qorthwest, who is not even a certifibd accountant, with no better 'iuctess than his predecessor; Notwithstanding that they have been proceeding with this audit for nearly four years, the present administration is challenged to produce the state treasurers receipts, showing that one cent has ever been turned into, the state treasury as the result f these investigations. - - As further evidence of the manner in .which . .the Democratic administration ha? keptits pledge to the people, fs interesting to note the increased appropriations and expenditures in the various departments of the state.' In 1915 the Republican legislature appropriated the sUm of $3,078,307.68 for the maintenance of the state government for the ensuing two years. The regular and special sessions of the Democratic 1919 legislature appropriated $4,279,115.12 to meet the expense of state government for. and in addition, the state board of examthe years 1919-2iners have already granted deficits to the various state de- - . partments in the amount of $260,000, making a total of appropriations made . and deficits granted - of , $1,460,807.44. - For Governor of Tsnlsc mads me feel Just like a new man." said Wini-8t- ., CspL F.
