Williams, who feels that the decision handed down by the Supreme court in the case of the State of Utah vs. J. R. Allen is a travesty of justice. It was shown in the Fourth District court that Allen had stolen four head of horses and taken complete possession of them, and that he had killed eight others, all of which belonged to citizens of this county who complained to the officers. 'Judge Morgan of the Fourth District court had the courage to impose a sentence that he thought such a crime deserved, Of course Judge Morgans sentence would have taken Allen to the state penitentiary for a period of from one to ten years, which, we admit is an unusual penalty for a man of Allens wealth to pay. We are told that aside from issuing a short abstract the local district attorney took no further interest in the case. For obvious reasons the officers of Utah county had no easy task in successfully prosecuting this case but they were successful and now to have the Supreme court tell them that they were wrong in what they did and Allen was right is indeed discouraging, and makes us wonder what would have happened to a man of less influence than Allen had he committed a similar, or even the same crime We cannot but feel that the hand of justice has been perverted byxan overwhelming influence. But what is worse than all he has either missed or completely forgotten that exaltation and rapture which comes to the child, who, when nestled in his mothers arms is given his first vision of life as interpreted through such fascinating stories as those to which our friend objects1. We wonder what our critic would think of such men as Theodore Roosevelt, if he knew, (for we feel justified in assuming that he does not know) that Mr., Roosevelt wrote hundreds of letters to his, children long before they were able to read. He called them picture letters, for they contained crude drawings of his own in illustration of the written text, which were precisely adapted to the childish THE Eldrigde Barlow and Eldridge A nlne-lnnln- imagination and intelligence. For the benefit of our friend and all who jjpay think they are too great or too busy to give the child consideration we quote the following letter from among hundreds of similar ones that President Roosevelt was not too busy nor ' too great to write to his children, and to many other children with whom he had become acquainted : BERT STODDARD The Forgetful Teacher MORI BROTHERS g i - AUSTIN GOETZ AND FAE DUFFY A Variety of Oddities Japanese Pastimes WARD AND KING MY GIRL Another one of those roaring Sunshine Comedies CHICKEN & CABARETT BUD SYNDER AND JOE MELINO CO. As the result of this energy and eagerness on the part of all to put things over Provo is taking on new life. The success with which the recent educational campaign was conducted and the magnificent parade that heralded Provos fame as an educational center broadcast are examples of what can be done through At this time the big spring clean-u- p is being planned, and as another example of thjs same spirit the Post. was fairly besieged with requests from different organizations to publish notices last Friday of meetings and plans outlining the activities of this campaign. Such interest is indeed praiseworthy and cannot help but make for a bigger and better Provo. Let us hope that this progressive spirit shall continue and that every organization interested in Provos civic life will strive to keep the ball rolling in the rigth direction. , E LOCAL OFFICERS REBUKED righ Exhaustive, tests have proved that 4- - 4 buiSb JT, 3.
