Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS Community WEDNESDAY JULY 11, 2001 15 Special Fredonia town council meeting Council members present at the May 22, 2001 special town council meeting included: Mayor Winward, Lillian Lukus, Greg Honey, Brent Mackelprang and Joy Jordan. Guests present included: Tom Corrigan, Crystal Rathke, Rob- ert & Vivian Millikin, Donald Sarrells, Dan Watson, Weston Burch, Debbie Gillespie and Antone Giovanini. At 6:30 p.m. Mayor Winward called the meeting to order. The invocation was offered by Crystal Rathke. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mayor Winward. On a motion by Joy Jordan, seconded by Mayor Winward, the Council voted unanimously to approve the agenda. Minutes from the May 8, 2001 were given to Council to prior the meeting so a reading was not necessary. On a motion by Lillian Lukus, seconded by Joy Jordan, Council voted unanimously to approve the minutes with the clarification H Item in regarding the location of the wells. Demands were given to Council for their review and signature. 01 Public Comment Mr. Giovanini noted that the Town Council had accepted sev- eral grants in previous meet- ings which required matching funds from the Town of Fredonia. He felt that the Town should be sure to set aside the funds for these grants. Town Council ex- - Town Council voted unanimously to donate $150 from next years budget to the Kanab Womens rum. Fo-Stev- en Item 2: Fire Chief Weston Burch recommend that the open fire ban be postponed for two weeks. He noted Mark Barons recommendation to impose the ban, however, Chief Burch feels the recent storms have left a lot ofgreen brush which needs time to dry up and then be burned, Mr.Burchalsorecommendedthe Town Council approve KurtHenrie as a Lieutenant On a motion by Brent Mackelprang, seconded by Lillian Luklis, Town Council voted unanimously to approve Kurt Henrie as a Lieutenant, Item 3: Brent Mackelprang apologized for not getting an matedoneontheroadworkneeded esti-meeti- ng Strike Force which has two posi-o- f tions. The first is the Kane ' County Sheriffs Office Deputy a fully paid position. The second is an Agent position fully funded by the Utah Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice with a $120,000 federal grant from the Department of Justice. This is called the Bums grant, which each state receives every year. Kanab has filled this posi- tion for the last two years. The Agent in this position has moved into the Kane County Sheriffs -- plained they are already aware Office Deputy position which of the necessity to so; however, leaves the Agent position in Kanab open. Kanab has decided not to fill this position; there- fore, Kane County offered us the opportunity to hire and staffthis position. These copies will also be used for the new Visitor Center.
