By Clint Chick Nielson Dixie College Few can define IT once they have seen IT. Many pursue IT, but find IT elusive. Those who embrace IT never forget IT. IT belongs to everyone, but no one in particular. We sing about IT, talk about IT, laugh about IT, and often reminisce about IT. IT is discussed around campfires, in chance meetings with friends, over picnic baskets, at family reunions, and is often witnessed in the faraway looks ofblissful faces who think of IT. IT is the reason for victories and the motivating force for individual achievement. IT has created professional atheletes, college presidents, doctors, dentists, attorneys, in ventors, teachers, scientists, actors, singers and comedians. Yes, IT is like salt. IT adds flavor to life and happiness. What is IT? What is IT? What is IT? IT is the SPIRIT OF DIXIE. IT can only be obtained by sacrifice, hard work, and a personal commitment to serve DIXIE by doing your best both in and out of the classroom. Good luck in your quest to find this elixir for your success. IT is real!!! (Bill Fowler, President of Student Services.) Couldnt have said it better myself. In fact, I dont think I could have said it at all by myself. However, it is there, whether youre a 17 year-ol- d picking up an advance credit on 'Can't think of what to get Mom... Feel it yourself, even Students math classes explored honey bees. They discussed how the characteristic shape of a comb is a hexagon and how a hexagon tessellates to make a honeycomb. They also explored how many trips a bee has to make to produce one oz. of honey. They did a problem that found how much honey a bee could produce if it traveled a distance equal to the distance from the earth to the moon. The students found out that a queen honey bee eats 80 times its weight per day. Students figured out how much food they would have to eat per day with their weight if they ate as much as a queen honeybee. The class also made graphs comparing their z ge to their dogs age.
