Numerous men, women, and children from surrounding communities came to a dinner, yard sale and auction. Jim Glover, former principal of Valley, and close friend of Royce Young, donned cowboy hat and microphone to become the auctioneer for the lively group. The spirit of giving was strong amongst the bidders, and many were very generous with their pocketbooks. Perhaps the most entertaining moment was when Pete Mangum came up for bids along with the trail rides, he had donated. Interesting enough, his Good Salesperson Wanted II ((S3M8sKl5l51IiIBi8ffl1i0l Be sure the tourists know who you are and what you have for them... get your brochure in the four Kanab Kiosks. Numerous items were donated for the cause. Hat racks, hand bags, pocket knives, picnic table, paintings, were just some of the items up for bid. Possibly the most heart felt exchange came from Susan Honey who bought a quilt one of the Young girls had made, then ever so generously gave it back to the Young girl for a wedding gift. I suppose the theme for the evening, could easily have been We love you folks. Ironically the man for whom the benefit was intended is such an example to all of us. His devotion to Church, family and community is so commendable, and his life is a life of service and giving. Royce is only getting a small portion back in comparison to what he has given to the scouting program alone. The word Benefit does indeed fit all of us. The benefits of giving to someone else is beyond comparison. The words of Kahlil Gibran ring so true where Brother Young is concerned. You give but little, when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give. As to the giver, the words of Victor Hugo ring true, As the purse is emptied the heart is filled. What a heart rending evening to watch the givers and receivers come together in a oneness of love and charity. These are the very things that bring communities towards a renewed spirit of love for one another. A special thanks for those who worked behind the scenes to make such an evening possible. They know who they are and ask to be anonymous. Over $25,000 was raised! Thanks to eyeyopq wpo blpe4 out., |
