A group of hunters on opening day of elk season last year did not get to wonder, they had to act. Two ofthe group left early to get to their spot before sunrise. While waiting for sunrise, they were checking out their guns and loading them. They were just finishing loading a 6 in the car when it went off. After the initial shock, the driver realized his partner was shot just above the knee and blood was everywhere. He immediately got his partner to base camp. When he rolled into base camp getting the attention of others to get help, he got the attention of a 17 year old young man who . Periodontal disease is a bacterial infection of the gums, bone of the jaw, and the periodontal membrane. In the earliest stage, called gingivitis, it can be reversible. It is treated with a professional cleaning, followed by proper brushing and flossing techniques. Gingivitis that is not treated can lead to more destructive form of the disease called periodontis. This is when the toxins destroy the tissues that attach the tooth to the bone. In the early stages of peridontal disease, tnere is no pain. Most people are not aware of the infection until it reaches a more advanced state and warning signs become more apparent. The warning signs are: Gums that bleed easily Red, swollen or tender gums Gums that have pulled away from the teeth Puss between the gums and teeth when the gums are pressed Persistant bad breath or taste Permanent teeth that are loose or separating Any chahge in the way teeth fit together when you bit Any changes in the fit of partial dentures f FRESH FOOD T 030 w"1 f 164 E 300 S Kanab I 644-860- 0 j 5 Blue Cross Blue Shield Providers for: PEHP Dental Select Platinum Educators Mutual for appointment or Call 355 N. This restricting band stopped the bleeding of the femoral artery, one of the largest arteries we have. He then got ice and packed the wound and leg and treated the man for shock. While this young man was doing this his father called for an ambulance. The hunters then began to transport their friend off the mountain and staying in touch with the EMTs and doing as was told. The ambulance was met and the wounded man was taken to Salt Lake. Comments from the doctors and EMTs praised the young man for his actions and it ifhe had not acted quickly, the victim would have bled to death in a matter of a few minutes. The victim unfortunately lost his leg, but he is still alive. When interviewed, the young man commented that he learned these life saving skills in his troop and at a Merit Badge Pow Wow.
