Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS News From the 29th of August through the Labor Day weekend, Troopers of the Utah Highway Patrol stopped a total of 156 vehicles, issued 110 citations, issued 36 warnings, investigated 11 accidents, assisted three stranded motorists, and took two impaired drivers off the roads. Several Garfield residents had k been watching episodes of The and decided that there were more than a few similarities between the show and the number of livestock that had been killed along the highway. One horse near the 125 mile back-to-bac- X-Fil- one and a motorhome hit the others, the old man in the back of the room yelled, Ya, but that doesnt explain the picture of the dung beetle carved in the hay field. Panic struck the crowd again, as Sgt. Cutler left the meeting giggling, dangling the keys to theyellow John Deere lawn mower from Hatch. The third of September pretty much started off the Labor Day weekend. This was the start of many arrests, and the last of the accidents that would happen through the weekend. Sandra Mognet was northbound on Highway 11 when she hit a semi that had turned in front of her. The passenger ofthe car received some injuries and was transported to the Kane County Hospital for treatment. The driver of the semi was cited for making an improper turn. Trooper Keller investigated the last of the accidents, also on the third, involving a sleeping driver, Bradley marker, three cows at the southern county line, were too many to be killed along that stretch of road. Something was very wrong. The Chief and Sheriff called a town meeting to discuss the losses and to see if the people had any explanation for the fifty foot picture of a dung beetle carved in Sorensons hay field. While trying to calm the crowd, Cole. The next thing they knew, people were scattering everywhere. One elderly gentleman in the back of the room thought he heard the Chief say, .Sounds exactly like Area 51, which 10-5- started the panic. Troopers Bailey and Keller, also in attendance, felt like this had gone on long enough and decided to let the people know about the auto accidents that had caused the deaths of the livestock. Trying to explain how a truck had hit completed by Trooper Whitaker found the two to be under the influence of meth, marijuana, and a rainbow of pain killers and depressants. Great job 4-1- ler developed severe pal cramp in his right hand, and had to start issuing the remaining tickets with his left hand. Six drug arrests, four paraphernalia, two tobacco, two open containers, and two contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Not too shabby for a sergeant! Altogether, the local law enforcement and the UHP issued over 40 citations for drug and paraphernalia violations. Alcohol was also a top priority, which resulted in 12 open container arrests and three importation violations. Somewhere around 35 cases ofbeer and an unknown number of bottles of liquor were confiscated and the owners cited. Naturally, this weekend also had its share of people cited for speedingand seatbelt violations. Overall, this weekend was a success due to the lack of any accidents after Thursday afternoon, and the combined efforts of all the local law enforcement. The UHP wishes the best of luck to the Kanab Cowboys at Homecoming and to remind everyone once again that there are only 98 shopping days left until Christmas, unless you shop on Christmas Eve, like myself. In which case you have 99 days to accident. Trooper Keller found Brads car at the bottom of a 50 foot hill. It was obvious that the car had rolled several times and that the use of the seat belt may have saved Brads life. With the accidents out of the way, Troopers, Sergeants, Lieutenants, City Officer, Deputies, and s hit the highways hard with some terrific enforcement. Trooper Cluff arrested both of this weeks DUIs, but they were under the influence of anything but alcohol. Drug evaluations shop.
