According to Superintendent Donald A. Falvey, N ational Park Service Director Robert Stanton doln approved the lar project on April 17. With this approval, the second phase of the Zion Transportation System will be advertised on May 12, 1998, and invitations issued for prospective contractors to bid on the project. The first phase was completed in 1994 with the construction of the 1.75 mile-lon- g Parus Trail. Subsequent phases for the bus maintenance facility and upper canyon shuttle stops will be bid in 1999. The primary feature of this construction project will be a visitor trannew indoor-outdosit and interpretive center with a parking area. Related work in the bid package is a shuttle stop and restroom complex at the Zion Lodge, the reconstruction of the intersecCarmel tion at the Highway and Scenic Drive, ' & " t wf?- '5 I ,.
