Julie Anne Johnson, Escalante, took the scenic tour of Bryce Canyon (the route not often seen by most tourists), in her car on Saturday the 14th. Most people tend to stay on the beaten path when traveling through our National Parks, as was Julies intentions, she had no idea what could t but happen on this day. You see, most people have heard of the t evils that happen on Friday the ; 13th from negative media. What most people have forgotten is that Thursday the 12th and Saturday the 14th carry just as much evil and superstition as the 13th, they just havent had the same exposure. Anyhow, Julie mysteriously lost control of her car and drove off a 30 foot embankment, thus the scenic tour not often seen by tourists. Luckily Julie was not hurt due to the use ofher seatbelt. She did breathe a sigh of relief when she was told that it wasnt her fault, but the fate of the 14th. Jason Spencer, Cedar City, was also a victim of the 14th.. Jason was traveling on SR63 and didnt see the stop sign at the junction of Highway 12. Now, I could believe he might miss seeing a stop sign, but miss an entire highway that crosses your path. Whats up with that? Jason went through the stop sign, across Highway 12, off the other side, and got stuck. Jason The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime, does not mean he is guilty. This left the only other fate held by the 14th, Valentines Day. His mind elsewhere, Jason simply had a safe accident. Making it through the 14th, took us to the 15th, where El Nino was busy playing catchup. Having left its mark on the rest of the country, El Nino settled in with everything it had, right on top of one of our local attorneys, Cathy Johnstone. Speed and snowy conditions contributed to the accident, and the citation for speeding too fast for conditions. Two thumbs up; one for Cathy, the other for Cluff. El Nino was bound and determined not to leave Garfield County on the 15th. Trooper Keller bundled up to go help Russell Mayfield, West Valley City, who had been caught up in the snowy conditions, ran off the road, and rolled his car. .Keller completed a report on the accident, while Russell and passenger were treated and released from the Garfield Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Trooper Cluff has attended more DUI hearings in the Tooele area. Four days this week consumed the majority of Cluff s time. Cluff mentioned that he is looking forward to finishing all of his 1-- 1-- County. All the time driving back and forth has started to soften the calluses on his writing fingers. Thomas Gay, Glendale, AZ, fell asleep just long enough to drive off the road on Highway 20. This accident took place on a winding stretch of road which requires that both eyes be on the road. Trooper Bailey responded to the minor accident and offered assistance to Thomas. Thomas in return promised not to sleep again until he reached his home.
