I feel guilty. Downstairs in our spare bedroom sits a large garbage bag. It has been there for a year or so. It is getting larger every day. Every time one of four (adorable) sons does something noteworthy i.e., draw a cute picture, mug for the camera, win an award, lose a tooth, the cherished memento is thrown into the bag. Of course the contents of the bag will all be filed into the proper individual scrapbooks and album a later date. And so my guilt. The bag keeps expanding I just keep delaying the day I tackle the huge project of album assembling. Memorabilia is a funny thing. Those special things can remind one of an event or time in a childs life. It is basically the stuff you would feel too guilty to get rid of. Im sure a more organized mother would have had this done long ago. I just dont seem to get around to it. Im not alone. One mother told me that although she did faithful filing with her first child, subsequent children did not get as dedicated a job. She said her second childs album consists of a birth certificate, diploma and a wedding picture. Lets be honest, another mother told me. I have all my kids keepsakes in grocery bags up in our attic. When the kid moves out, they are going with him. comes When your first child along, you document, record and save everything. I have three scrapbooks filled with keepsakes of my oldest son. ..all just from birth to two years. Theyre all very important things, too: a lock of hair, a tiny footprint, a picture of his first bite of chocolate cake, even his umbilical cord. These are all things mothers cherish. (And, something that we can use to embarrass him with in the future.) We took so many pictures of Jeremy as an infant that Kodak used to send us Christmas cards. There is a whole book on his first birthday. Its hard to believe a person could take that many pictures of someone who was chubby, bald and had no teeth. Rory came along and with him, fewer scrapbooks. He still has s-- at amassed a sizable ream of memory material though. The Fourth Wards High Priest Group answered that question at a dinner recently. The complete dinner was made from foods that had been stored for two or more years. Lillis Tonks, Mignon Crosby and Pat Baker concocted delicious bean soup and minestrone soup. Jill Puffer and Oranell Judd served up scrumptious whole wheat bread. Dessert consisted ofchocolate pudding with whipped topping, sugar cookies and the surprise ofthe evening angel' food cake, made from wholewheat flour and powdered ' egg whites. Dont store foods you dislike, commented Marvin Baker during his demonstration of the types of foods that store well, And hope you never have to use them. But store foods that you will use and rotate them continually. Lorin Tonks explained that use it food storage wasnt just for general disasters like earthquakes and floods. High medical bills, employment layoffs, or personal budget crunches, can all be reasons for dipping deeply into your food storage. Tonks said. As most stored foods require water for reconstitution, Larson Crosby gave a demonstration on different types ofwater. Through a microscope he gave an up close look at the inhabitants in a drop of stagnant water, a drop of running stream water and a drop of local tap water. After seeing the creepy, crawling thing in the stagnant water there were ughs from most ofthe audience. Now,', dont be put off, said Crosby. You can strain this through fine cheesecloth, let it stand overnight, carefully pour it through more fine cheesecloth, boil it for 10 minutes and you have good drinking water. Crosby demonstrated other methods of water purification as well. Available at d red-haire- 7 Duke's siSSasM 84741 n Kanab, UT 8 am to 10 pm Winter hours Mon-S- at -- - 9 am to 6 pm ?:.
