Who knows better than those who were bom here how beautiful this land really is? I am proud that others want to come and see it. But to slam this whole thing in our faces, just seals my view ofa President who is smooth and charismatic on the surface, yet evil and dark in his heart. Do you actually believe we can insure that President Clinton keeps his word when he spoke at the Grand Canyon? He lied to our Senators, he lied to our Governor, he has lied before, he will lie again. The true environmentalists are those who live off their land, love it and want it to stay beautiful for their posterity. The radical environmentalists are those who think their way is the only way, and they had better step in and save this land from poor, ignorant folk who live here. This is their view of not only southern Utah, but the whole West. If a stranger came into your house and stole one of your children, would you get up the next day and go on as if nothing ever happened? Would you think that it is a done deal and youd better make the best of the situation because you wouldnt want the neighbors to be afraid of the commotion youd cause to try and get her back? Most ranchers and land owners feel their land is a part of their family. The shock and pain caused by this land grab is almost unbearable to some. Yes, life does go on, but to act as if nothing of consequence happened in unnatural. In our society you compared 5 to a vehicle, the brakes have all the control. They dont listen to any other part of the vehicle. If there is to be a balance, why should the brakes (environmental groups) decide when and how that takes place? Where would our nation be if it werent for the gas pedal (mining, logging and ranching)? The SUWA leadership smiles as it says, We wont stop until we get our 5.7 million acres in southern Utah What is next? Will it ever stop? We have got to make noise, or we will lose our heritage and our identity! We shouldnt ignore our rights as citizens so a few visitors wont feel uncomfortable. Maybe they would think it was refreshing to see a small town take a stand against Washington and dirty politics. How can we base our economy any more on an unstable tourist industry? It keeps getting harder to find employees who can work for minimum wage. The President is close to putting our small business under, because of his minimum wage increase. Now we have to pass that increase alongto our customers (locals and tourists alike). He has damaged us all again by pulling out the rug on a more secure future.
