Goldfish, for example, can reproduce and grow in the wild. The result can be a nuisance very much like its close relative, the carp, which devours the vegetation, depriving other fish of food. In San Juan County, the practice of releasing unwanted goldfish into nearby Recapture Reservoir has produced something of a giant goldfish bowl. As a result, trout fishing has declined dramatically. About the only way to rid the reservoir of the unwanted inhabitants is to apply chemical treatments, which also kill sport fish. So what can you do? Try adopting them out with another family, instead of forcing them on Utahs fisheries. dards for their respective age divisions. Jo McFadden ran well taking sixth place in her sion. To do so accomplishes much more than just covering the soil. The roots will penetrate deeply into the soil and break it up, bringing up minerals. As well as provide food for the microorganisms and worms to feed on, which will remain active because the cover crop keeps the soil warm. It also provides a super dose of complete organic fertilizer. It can save the gardener time, work, and money, improve the garden soil and boost yields. This weedpreventing layer of mulch will conserve moisture, keep it soft and protect it from wind and erosion. cover crop If a nitrogen-fixin- g is used these plants pull that basic gas right out of the air we breathe. There are two main classes of cover crops, as I have explained before. Legumes and grasses. Legumes are the crops that take nitrogen from the air and store it in the plant, which is released when it is tilled into the soil. Grasses and grains are in the same family, which include rt wheat, oats, barley and rye. Though they do not collect nitrogen from the air they do supply some nitrogen when broken down in the soils. The main benefit from grasses and grains in the mass of organic matter they supply that brings the soil greater health and helps make it more workable. Next week will provide a listing of those cover crops that are considered the best and easiest to manage. mara-meetin- Christmas in November Beta Mu Sorority of Page, This annual event draws the Arizona is proud to sponsor talented people ofPage, as well the annual craft show, as Kanab and the surrounding Christmas in November.
