Bill Mader of Toquerville agreed that they didnt want the Andalex coal mining trucks coming through their communities. By Richard Negus With no qualifications or reservations, Utah State Representative Met Johnson gave Kane County the promise of the unequivocal support of the Western States Coalition for the Andalex coal mining. Johnson was on hand for an August 17 tour of the Andalex site, with Kane County Commissioners and several state officials. Johnson assured Commis- sioner Judd that he would do whatever is needed to smooth the way for the Andalex project in Eastern Kane. The proposed mine represents the largest coal reserve in Utah, with the energy equivalent of billions of barrels of Arab oil. Kane County sees the Andalex project as a potential economic boom, with its school and county tax benefits, as well as job potential. Johnson said the issue was crucial to the future of Utah and the West. He said that he would include the Kane County project on the Western States Coalition agenda. The next full meeting of the Coalition will be in Portland, Oregon in January, and Commissioner Judd told Johnson that Kane County will be well represented at that meeting. But the most disgusting aspect of what is happening to Social Security isbeing kept from the American public. While Congress tries to appear as a collection of modem Robin Hoods (supposedly protecting the interest of the common citizen), it would appear in fact, that they may have recently pulled off one of the greatest robberies in history! According to Jake Hanson, Director of Government Affairs for the Seniors Coalition since 1983, Congress has stolen $350 billion from the Social Security trust fund. At the present rate at which the fund is being pilfered, according to the Seniors organization, by the year 2020 Congress will have taken more than $5 trillion dollars from Social Security. The fact is that Social Security is the property of every American collectively. It doesnt belong to the politicians or Wall Street. The Seniors Coalition is based in Fairfax, Virginia.
