Since 1988, the National Trust has issued its 11 Most Endangered list to call attention to the significant role that the threatened sites have played in American history. The sites are typically nominated for the list by local preservation groups, who they use the list as a public education tool to raise awareness and rally resources for saving them. Many of the sites on this years list in particular are everyday places that signify extraordinary struggles and experiences, Moe added. Unfortunately we dont always recognize them as national treasures until theyre almost gone.
