Past president of the Kane County Teachers Association, director ofthe Utah Elementary Principals Association, and was appointed by Governor Rampton to serve on the Committee for Children and Education. Civic activities include seven years on the Kanab City Council, where he assisted in gaining accreditation for Kanab High School. He served ten years as chairman of the Five County Advisory Council on Aging and as chairman of the Kane County Council on Aging.
