On the negative side, we have had to destroy six of these dogs, which were either unclaimed by their owners or simply stray dogs picked up in the city. On the positive side, we were able to find new homes for 10 of the dogs through adoption. The new homes ranged in distance from Moab to Tropic to Bryce Valley to Orderville, as well as Kanab itself. We work veiy hard tofindhomesforthese unwanted dogs. It is our last resort to have to destroy them. A total of nine dogs were reclaimed by their owners. Before the dog can be released, the owner must adhere to our strict program of spay and neuter, rabies shot, city license, payment ofthe impound fees, and in some instances payment of the citation issued by the Police De- partment. We feel our statistics are encouraging since taking over the program from Best Friends. We have discovered that there are some very nice people in the area when it comes to our adoption program. They are true dog lovers and very sympathetic to their plight. On the other hand we have confronted dog owners who show no concern or responsibility when their dog is impounded. Their attitude is I cant afford to get my dog out of the pound and comply with your urogram, so go ahead and detroy it or find a new home for .
