After the first two days it looked like West Zion might just sweep the tournament with convincing wins over Tri City and Bryce Valley, but the Tn City team came back on Thursday to even the score with West Zion and force a final game on Friday. West Zion and Tri City opened the tournament Monday at the local field with the visitors winTri City jumped ning it ahead in the first inning when Cash Kloepher and Josh OReilly scored. West Zion answered the challenge with two runs of their own in the first when the pitcher, 8-- 3. f James Stout, got on base and Tri City got their final run in the top of the fifth when Steven Brinkerhoff scored, but Gurule capped off the Zion scoring in the bottom of the fifth with his third home run, and Tri City was unable to score in the last inning. Winning pitcher was Stout with Kerby Black losing, saw Bryce Valley challenge the winning WestZion team, only to be humiliated in a contest. West Zion let everyone know they were the favored team. In the first inning everyone scored as they brought 13 runs across the plate. They added two more in the second and four in the third to lead 19-- 0 going into the fourth inning. Bryce Valley was finally able to get on the scoreboard with Brinkerhoff, Chynoweth, and Johnson comingin. But that was the end ofitand WestZion scored another eight runs in their half of the fifth inning. In the second inning Tri City broke it open with eight runs, then got another six in the third, and then sailed through the remaining two innings to take the win, and earn the right for another crack at the favored West Zion, Thursday it was do or die for Tri City as they squared off againstthehighfiyingWestZion nine. Casey Glover was on the mound for Tri City and did an admirable iob in mixing up the pitches to keep West Zion ters off balance. He went the distance for Tri City and took the win, Stout was the ing pitcher. Josh OReilly opened things up for Tri City with a homer off Stout his first time at bat, and that along with another homer in the fifth and the pitching of Glover was the story for the day. Tri City scored again in the second with Sam White coming across, but WestZion also scored two in the second to bring a tie After that game at defenseforTri City with no more scoring allowed for West Zion, In the fourth White got on base and Jake Ramsay belted out a home run to score two. In the fifth WestZion changed pitchers with Josh Woodbury coming to the mound. OTteilly greeted the new pitcher with a home run that cemented the score at and forced the tour-thnament into another game on Friday, Just before sending the paper to the printer the final game ended. West Zion won the cham-dutie- s pionship in the final inning 3 in a close and exciting finale. The score was tied, 3 going into the sixth.
