Show 1 1 SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS Thursday, April 14, 1988 Southern Utah H - Page Four SOCIETY PAGE LD Singers Perform Tomorrow in Kanab A performing musical group from the Ephraim LDS Institute and Snow College will be appearing in concert at the Kanab South Stake Friday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m. The L.D. Singers are stopping in Kanab as part of their five-daspring tour. The group will perform at various schools and high communities in southeastern Utah. Included in the group are 40 students, consisting of the basses, tenors, altos and sopranos, plus three accompanists. Advisor of the L.D.s is David Willmore. DUP Seeks Artifacts KANAB-Kan- ab will have a museum of sorts but items are needed to display, said a press release from the Camp Willow Daughters of Utah Pioneers (DUP). The play will be presented at the Kanab High School auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students. Everyone is invited. GEORGE Joy Sterling Jack Moore, died April 3, 1988 in St. George, Utah at age 92. Mr. Moore was born in Edgcmont, South Dakota to Louis Kosuth and Ruth Brown Moore on January 22, 1896. He married La Rue Garrison on Feb. 14, 1947 in Las Vegas, Nev. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple by John M. Russon. Mr. Moore was a graduate of the Los Angeles Chiropractic College. He also owned and operated a Los Angeles business, Sterling Tool Supply, during his carreer. As a High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Mr. Moore held many church positions while in living in California. He continued serving in the LDS church after moving to Kanab, Utah. His family and friends will remember him for his ready smile. And, everyone that knew him, knew him for a true gentleman. Surviving Mr. Moore are his wife, La Rue of Kanab and his daughter, Carmen Russel of Glendale, Ariz. He also leaves behind him five grandchildren, five a cousin and a nephew. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 7, 1988 at 1 1 a.m. in the Kanab South LDS Chapel. Bishop Lee Weber conducted. In Kanab A Field Service Officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Department Service office in Salt Lake City will be in Kanab to assist vets in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits, preparing and documenting applications for compensation, pension, hospitalization, education and other benefits. This is a free service and veterans need not be members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars to qualify for assistance. The VFW Field Service officer will be working out of the Kanab City Job Service Center from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on April 19. Ethel Robinson Kitchen was born and raised in Kanab. She was the 7th child in a family of 9 children, 5 boys and 4 girls. She attended the local schools and later went to BYU where she graduated with a major in home economics. Contrary to a great majority of BYU students, she married a THE SOUND ROOM 235 South 100 East Kanab 644-542- 8 and raised beautilul flowers and plenty of vegetables to share with others. He enjoyed the especially hunting and dutch-ovecooking. He was devoted to his family. Richard Esplin, age 62, died April , 1988 in Panguitch, Utah. He was born July 15, 1925 in Orderville to Lawrence and Lucy Heaton, Sr. He was a Marine Veteran of World War II. On February 17, 1947 he married Phyllis Chamberlain in n 1 Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Esplin of Orderville; his father, Lawrence Esplin, Sr., of Orderville; five daughter, Mrs. Michael (Dicki Lee) Robinson of Kanab; Mrs. Bruce (Terry) Jackson of St. Johns, Ariz.; Mrs. Terry (Lucy) Griffiths and Mrs. Dale (Rochelle) Eberly of Orderville and Mrs. Leon (Sally) Brinkerhoff of Glendale. Three brothers and three sisters, Lawrence Esplin, Jr., of Cedar City; Israel Esplin, John J. Esplin, Mrs. LaNard (Nan) Johnson and Mrs. Alonzo (Amy) Levanger, all of Orderville; VeRene Tait of Fredonia, 24 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha. Members and their guests will meet on Saturday, April 16, 9:30 a.m. at the Kanab Senior Citizens Center, where a bus and driver will be waiting. The trek will pass Jacob Lake, House Rock, Vermilion Cliff and Marble Canyon before arriving at historical Lees Ferry for a picnic lunch. Marvin Stevens from Mt. Carmel will be the guide. This promises to be a fun trip through beautiful country, so pack your picnic lunch, bring a cold drink or two, and come trekking along with the Sons of the Utah Pioneers. A $3.50 per person fee will be charged to cover the bus expense. Ethel has several hobbies -sewing, quilting and cooking. She is in charge of the federal Outreach program in Kanab which is a community service providing visits to the homebound as well as hospital patients. She has done this for many years. She cooked for 35 years at Parry Lodge. She has also put in many hours as a volunteer workers at the center. All of her activities reflect that she is a dedicated worker and a people lover. NANNY |
