May we follow President Bensons glorious example and put our total energy and give our lifes blood to the cause of youth and the Kingdom of God here on earth," he said. I will learn" (the Scouting program) I will love (the boys) I will serve". Pres. Thomas S. Monson promised. He is a member of the National executive board. He again took the Scout oath and law. Pres. The program started with a flag ceremony in which 100 Scouts carried flags that were posted around the front of the tabernacle balcony, and with the pledge of allegiance. This great Church was the first national religious body to take action on Scouting," Mr. Love said. It took place when Joseph F. Smith, nephew of the first Prophet, was president of the Church. The charter was issued on May 21, 1913. Today the Church operates more Scouting units, over 22,000, than any other religious body in America," he said. Many boys have their first contact with the Church in a Scout troop." He said that the program has a special benefit to the family, that it had an outreach into the community and that it helped to develop strong but that the real leadership, benefactors were the boys and young men. The BSA was only eight years old when Pres. Ezra Taft Benson became a Scoutmaster in 1918 in his native Idaho," Pres. Piggott said in a tribute to the Prophet. President Benson, the Boys Scouts of America salutes you, he continued, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Scouting in the Church. We thank God for your dedicated leadership and pray His richest blessings on you and the great Church you lead. It is important for boys to start in the Scouting program when they Dwan J. I have said many times that I would hope that every young man would become an Eagle Scout and not settle for mediocrity in the great Scouting program in the Church." Thats appalling, and maybe theres a line of logic for parents of dropouts to use in potential persuading them to stick with school. Its about money. The U.S. Census Bureau reports that high school graduates earn $352 a month more than those who drop out. Thats enough to make payments on a very nice car--o- r pay rent. Even better, of course, are the rewards of earning a college a month more than degree-$6- 72 those who left college before graduation. The Census Bureau study showed that physicians and lawyers earn an average of $3,871 a month. Other doctoral degree holders earn $3,265 a month; those with master's degrees earn $2,288; and persons wtb bachelor's degrees command salaries of $1,841. The average salary for employees with associate degrees is $1,346 and (77TTKTn?II vocational training program graduates get $1,219. The pay for high school graduates is $1,045 and dropouts' salaries w'ere $693 a month. Those figures are averages. The moral is simple: The more you learn, the more you earn. School doors are open to all young people. Those who dont receive a high school diploma face a lifetime of insecurity and uncertainty. Businesses want higher and higher skills in this age of information and technology. The parent whose son or daughter is thinking of leaving school before graduation should review the figures with that student. above-mentione- d 0.K.T0 rr-- 5AY tfo To drugs!
