District President Ida White states: The Ladies Literary league will host the convention. It will begin at 9:45 a.m. $4.00 will cover registration and lunch. Guests are welcome, no registration fee for will cover lunch. , To honor the Bicentennial of the United States Constitution, we, the members of the General Federation of Womens Clubs, do hereby declare that on the 21st day of in March 1987, will assemble convention and will recognize the Bicentennial of the Constitution with a patriotic program. Russell of Orderville is pleased to announce the marriage of his daughter, Carol Lee, to Douglas D. Jacobs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald H. Jacobs of Kanab on Friday, March 20, 1987 in the St. George LDS Temple. A reception in their honor will be held that evening from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Orderville Ward Cultural Hall. The bride, a 1981 graduate of Valley High School, will graduate from Southern Utah State College in June with a degree in elementary education. The groom is a 1981 graduate of Kanab High School and served an LDS Mission in Madrid, Spain. He will also graduate from Southern Utah State College in June with a degree in elementary education. He is employed by Iron Parke Corp. in Cedar City. The couple will reside in Cedar finish their City while they education. MI March 24 through March 27, Kanab City Library will be open (hopefully) from 8 to 11 p.m. and it will be again in the afternoons from 3 to 5 p.m. The library will be closed on Saturday, March 28. Mrs. Watson and Miss Heydron will be attending the Utah Library Association Conference in Salt Lake City during these dates and the library will be manned by the School Librarian in the mornings and' volunteers in the afternoon for checking out and checking in of library materials only. Suicide is a problem for adults, but our youth are dying from it, according to Cherlyn Leach, counselor with Page Guidance Center and Page Womens Resource Center. Depression and Suicide Among the Young is the topic for the next public discussion at Fredonia Public Library, set for Thursday, March 26, at 5 p.m. in the basement. is not Of course depression limited to the young, and facts about youthful depression hold true for other people. Suicide is the leading killer among the elderly in Arizona, Leach said. The speaker will tell what she learned at a recent workshop in Phoenix and give handouts. How to identify youth at risk, the symptoms of depression, and ideas for prevention will be covered. Adults are afraid to mention suicide to teens for fear of planting ideas in their heads, she says. However, teens talk about suicide amorg themselves all the time. The trouble is that they spread myths. The solution is for adults to give teens the facts, Leach concludes. Marion's reproduction porcelain of the XI Mystery Doll was accepted by Yager Museum, The Museums at Hartwick, Oneonta, N.Y. for an exhibition of paper dolls and award winning dolls, courtesy of Doll Artisan Guild. You wont regret it. fun-fille- d DUP Camp Willow To Meet March 24 It The month of March has been designated Alcohol and Drug Abuse Awareness month by the Southwest Utah Mental HealthAlcohol and Drug Center. During the month the center sponsors a campaign contest in the schools. Elementary school children will be encouraged to enter a coloring contest and the middle and high school students will be eligible to enter either a poster, slogan or essay contest. All of the contests center around alcohol and drug abuse. Certificates and awards will be presented the winners. Please encourage your school age children to enter the contest and discuss Sharon Ward, both of Brigham City, will represent the UFWC executive board at the confab. Anna Johnson, president of the Ladies Literary League will report on activities and accomplishments of the Ladies Literary League for the 1986-8Phyllis Stewart, president of the Kanab Womens Civic Club, will review her clubs projects and programs for the year. Included will be an Arts and Crafts Show with local talent on display. Luncheon will conclude the convention agenda. Marion received a lovely Rosette of satin inscribed in gold and sealed with the logo of the Doll Artisan Guild, Gallery of Stars 1986, Doll Artisan Guild. Doll and award are on display at Make a Marion and Dicks Memory Shop in Kanab. It is a true honor to receive such an award and especially to be featured by the Doll Artisan Guild in such an eveijt, said Hunkins. Obituaries Willis Frihoff Nielson Willis Frihoff Nielson, 69, died March 12, 1987, at Mesa Lutheran Hospital, Mesa, Arizona. He was a resident of Mesa and moved to Mesa 53 years ago from New Mexico. He was owner and president of Neilson Travel agency for 20 years. He is known to many people m the Kanab area, having been an owner of the Parry Lodge and Four Seasons Motel. Nielson was a member of the Mesa 15th Ward of The Church of Saints of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y which he was a High Priest, and had served as a counselor in a "bishopric, stake cleric and regional athletic director for 25 years. He was in the U. S. Air Force during World War II. He was a scoutmaster for 11 years and had received the Silver Beaver Award, had served a mission for his church to the Eastern States. He attended George Washington University in Washington D. C. and Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. He is survived by his wife Nena of Mesa, daughters, Wilhelmina Pickett and Marijane Call, both of Mesa, Arizona; son Stanford Willis Nielson of Mesa; mother, Marie C. Nielson of Mesa, three sisters and two brothers, Melba Cram, Wanda Erickson, and Frieda Ross all of Salt Lake City; Ivan Nielson of Salt Lake and Lars of Mesa; eight grandchildren. Services were held Monday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at the Mesa 15th Ward Chapel, 1345 East University in Mesa. Joe Costello and Jamie Pugh will be manled Saturday. Jamie Pugh Will Be .... New Minister Appointed At Kanab United Church Donnie Lee Goode To Be Honored Donnie Lee Goode died of injuries received in a mine accident at the Gold King Mine in Silver-toColo. Friday, March 13, 1987. He was the son of Truman K. and Velma L. John Goode, both who survive of Kanab, Utah. He was bom July 25, 1955 in Montrose, Colo and spent his childhood and attended school in Nutur-it- a, Colo, and Silverton, Colo. He had been a resident of Silverton since 1969. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints in Silverton. He was an Emergency Medical Technician for the Mine Rescue Squad in Silverton. He was an outdoors-ma- n enjoying hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. He married Janet Colleen Slade at Silverton on Aug. An open house in honor of Pastor Ed Kicklighter and his wife, Jo, will be held on Friday, March 27, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the home of Richard and Lyn Evans at 186 E. 450 N. in Kanab. Ed and Jo have served in an interim capacity at the United Church since July 1986 and have contributed significantly to its growth which has brought about the move to the larger facility next door. The Kicklighters effervescent personalities, good humor, and musical talents will be missed by all who know them as they return to private life. Friends of Ed and Jo are invited to attend the open house and wish them farewell. Survivors, other than his parents and wife, include one daughter, Mandy Dawn Goode of Silverton; three brothers, Kenny, Jerry, and Kerry Goode ail of Kanab, Utah. Memorial services were held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints in Silverton Colo. Monday, March 16, 1987 at 2 p.m. with John Jacobs conducting the service His family has suggested that those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Silverton Ambulance Association, in care of Jean Willis, Gen. Del., Silverton, Colo. 81433. Cremation preceded the service with the Montrose Valley Funeral Home in charge of die arrangements. Interim Pastor attend. n, Outgoing interim Pastor Ed Kicklighter will welcome Reverend Ross J. Doyel as the Pastor-elec- t of the United Church of Kanab Fredonia, the Protestant Church development in Kanab under the umbrella of Shared Ministry in Utah. Ed Kicklighter, assisted by his wife, Jo, has served in the interim capacity since July 1986. For several years, Rev. Doyel, 39, of St. Louis, has been serving a suburban Presbyterian church located in Alton, Illinois. Ross is a graduate of Washington University with a degree in mathematics and is a 1972 graduate of Eden Theological Seminary. Ross and his wife, Johnie, have enjoyed the beauty and splendor of southern Utah for many years. Often, summer vacations have centered a around the area, which they feel is as near to Heaven as one can be on earth." The years traversing the roads and canyons of southern Utah have caused the Doyels to stand in awe at the courage, vision and endurance of the pioneers who settled the area. Ross and Johnie have three children, Patricia 11, John Ross 4, and Eric 2, who insists that dessert be served before the main course. Kanab-Fredoni- Their family hobbies include jeep-inin the scanning the heavens with their telescope, jogging and reading. They look forward to these pursuits, as well as the challenges of their new ministry in Kanab. Rev. Doyels first Sunday at the United Church is scheduled for April 5, 1987. Church services are held at 10 a.m. with Sunday School and fellowship hour at 11 a.m. The United Church is located at 530 South Hwy 89A in Kanab.
