Getting Ready For Great July Fourth The Kanab Elementary School their annual Christmas program on December 19, at the High School auditorium at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome. The Elementary School PTA is sponsoring a Christmas Can Drive for needy families in our area. Although this is strictly voluntary, we would like each child to bring at least one canned or boxed item to the Elementary School between the December 10 and 19. The items will be distributed to the needy families just before Christmas. will hold all they can to stay warm not too many are thinking about July of 1986. However, Duff Pugh, is giving it some thought, and already is making plans for a great celebration and, adding to the regular fun will be another several years of class reunions. Kanab graduating classes from 1941 to 1961 will be featured and honored during the celebration and will hold their individual class reunions that we end. December 6th, their number was drawn by Santa Claus, witnessed by local BPW members and assisted by their children. The Haynes family will be staying December 13 and 14 at the Royal Inn in Provo and viewing the Ramses II Egyptian Exhibit this Saturday at the museum on the BYU campus. The fund drive was a success," states Debbie Judd, fund drive organizer. Conducted to collect private donations, no businesses or banks were specifically asked to donate. The first $106 scholarship from this fund has been designated to go to an area woman to take a SUSC class in Kanab this winter quarter. Since those classes begin next month it is important that interested women contact Loretta Damon, Kanab SUSC Outreach Coordinator, for details on how to at apply for scholarship. Grocery stores and food bank organizations throughout Utah will join forces in the Share with the Hungry" program on Saturday, December 14. The program is sponsored by the Utah Retail Grocers Association We have held similar (URGA). pilot programs in the Salt Lake said Valley for the last two years, Jim Olsen, URGA president. In 1984, over 17 tons of food was collected in Salt Lake area grocery stores. Due to the success of the program, we have decided to involve food banks and grocers all over Utah. On Saturday, December 14, grocery carts designated vith a Share with the Hungry sign will be placed near the store exits. Customers will be encouraged to donate food items by placing them in the cart. Food which is collected will be picked up by food banks and other agencies who will then distribute it to those who are in need of food assistance. Cash donation canisters will also be placed in convenience stores and other locations for customers who wish to donate cash rather than food. "We found that Utahns are very willing to share with their fellow County Officials Plan Alterations in Fredonia Bldg. On Thursday, December 5, Supervisor Verne Seidel, County Finance Director Stan Kleinman and Director of County Planning and Maintenance Joe Rivera were in Fredonia. They met with the people who will be housed in the County Building to plan alterations that will be done to accommodate all the offices. There will be some walls installed, some doors eliminated and some more cut to rearrange the building. Work is to start on December 16. The new facilities will replace smaller exist ing structures and are designed to allow wheelchair access. Several existing restrooms in both camp grounds, the park Visitor Center, Grotto Picnic Area, and Temple of Sinawava are being modified to accommodate wheelchairs as well, Grafe added. The Kolob Terrace road, which goes to Lava Point, is closed for the season due to snow. Presently, vehicles may travel as far as Maloney Hill before the road becomes impassable. Approxim ately three feet of snow at Lava Point is providing winter enthusiasts with good snow conditions in which to pursue their particular winter sport activity, Grafe commented. Grafe announced that visitation for the month of November totaled 48,283 persons. This figure repredecline compared to sents a 9 November 1984 visits. Total visitation for 1985 now equals 1,653,123 increase over the persons, a 7 same period last year. Campground use during the month totaled 2,145 persons. Park Superintendent Grafe attriin November visitation to an unusually wet and cold month. "A total of 3.48 inches of precipitation was recorded for November, Grafe commented. This represents the second highest amount of precipitation received for a month of November since 1904." As a result of the wet month, mud and rockslide activity was necessary while road crews cleared rock and debris. The Ranger staff emphasized that motorists should be on the lookout for rockfall along the park road system.
