When anyone leaves our communities for medical services, or for anything for that matter, we lose, he stated, emphasizing that in a small community when money is spent in surrounding larger communities, none of that money returns. He stated that Kane County cannot expect to have a mini Mayo Clinic, but must be content with a primary care center, and said that if special services are needed doctors can refer patients to specialists. This brought on a discussion with those present about referring to other doctors. Many feel that doctors dont like to refer to others for fear of losing their patients altogether to that doctor. Confidence in the doctors was again brought up and Mr. Bengson said that is a personal thing. "I find them very competent and they come well documented. I think you will also see them working well together. He also stated that if we want to grow, we must have a MISS hospital. The local communities will not attract young people without a hospital. It will not attract older ret 'red people without a hospital either, he said. "If we dont give them a chance to perform, well lose the doctors and the hospital," he pointed out. Bengson said the hospital is working on some package plans on some of the routine procedures at the health center, where the patient knows before entering what the charges will be. He also said they want to start an Adopt a Room" program wherein local clubs or citizens could spruce up the rooms in the hospital somewhat and in that wav take more pride in the facility. The whole key to the success of the hospital, he concluded, is utilization. If we want it, we must use it.
