Crosby Do you know what Im thinking about this morning? Tm thinking about a horses life, how for some of them it isnt too good. This one is beautiful and lively and eager to get out and get going, but whoever owns it doesn't ever take it out of its 20 x 20 foot corral. Only one time in the last two months or so and that was to have shoes put on it. How would you like to be a horse under those circumstances? Would that be animal cruelty? Anyway, I hate to see that kind of treatment for animals even though it isn't any of my business, I dont suppose. Anyway, I guess Id better stop thinking about horses and get at the update. This is Monday, June 17. First, to remind you of a change in the time for blood pressure on the first Monday of each month. Due to the birthday party being held the first Monday it will be necessary to have the time changed to 1:30 until 2:30. This will only be for the first The other Monday, remember. Mondays will be at the same time which is from 1 until 2 p.m. Also, Tm to remind you too about the trip to Manti July 18. It is necessary for you to call the Center right now to confirm these reservations so you can be assured of a place to stay Mid-We- Geologic Hazards Info Sought short. The clothes I took with me were with the exception of one item. The coldest place was at the Winds of Gabriel indoor horse arena. My feet got cold even wearing nylons and orlon bootie socks. A club room near the arena was heated; so I was able to thaw my feet when needed. I learned from the occasion there is a tinfoil boot insert somewhere among Dr. Scholls many foot products on the market that will turn the cold coming from the ground, and I later purchased a pair of them. They have tinfoil on one side and sponge material on the other. Concerning the name Winds of Gabriel, Linda Bowlby, president of MWSSA wrote me: the name came to owner Roxanne Foreman in a dream. A messenger told her to look up Mathew 24:29 in the Bible. Her Bible dictionary referred to that passage and defined the winds" as meaning to go to the four corners of the earth and Gabriel as the messenger. Verses 29 and 30 talk about the last days and signs of Christs second coming. Verse 31 reads, And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. Well, thats enough munching into the matter for me. Of noteworthy interest, I passed In conjunction with geologic mapping currently being undertaken throughout Kane County, the Utah Geological and Mineral Survey would like information on historic occurrences of earthquakes, earth movements, rock falls in towns, settlement of buildings, earth depressions, ground cracks, receding river bluffs in towns, and other unusual earth phenomena that anyone may have knowledge of or have read in diaries, manuscripts or past newspaper accounts. Kindly address such information to Bruce N. Kaliser, State Hazards and Geologist, Utah Geological Mineral Survey, 606 Black Hawk Way, Salt Lake City, UT 84108, and include your address and telephone number with your response. well-chose- n pot-luc- this. Also, the bus will be leaving at 6:45 a.m. for St. George on Thursday, June 27. Call in about this trip also. Wanted to let you know, too, we are lucky to have Betty Lynch play for the chorus and Leona Frost to direct us. We are so grateful they will take this time to help. St. George has invited us to sing at their Center. Have you ever tried to sing in a chorus without a director? It just doesnt work. We do appreciate the help of these ladies so we can keep our chorus going. The Center had a nice warm experience during the Vagabond Days celebration. We do appreciate those who so faithfully sat at the table for us. Hopefully, next year it wont be so hot. Just a thought: We are not put on this earth to see through one another, but to see one another through. See you next week. Wanted to tell you our friend, Rachel Hicks, has moved to California to be where her children are. We wish her well in her new home and hope she can come visit us from time to time. There have been several in our midst who have had surgery lately. Thought you might like to know. s Dora Ottley has had a two heart operation in Salt Lake City. She is reporting all is going well and expects to be home soon. Also Ruth Johnson has had surgery in the Kanab Hospital but is home now and doing good, Lester says. Julia Young has improved enough to be back to church; sure seemed good to see her there with Clyde. Also Mr. Lawson, our retired high school principal, is in a Salt Lake Hospital where he has had s four heart surgery. I talked to Carlene and she reports her father is progressing well, and has been taken out of intensive care. To each of these we are pleased to hear they are doing well and hope they continue to do so. a Grandma Rides Aside by Lola Esplin By writing this column the second week of the month, I am able to take advantage of help from members in the Heritage Writers Guild, if I can manage to separate the wheat from the chaff. The Guild meets the second Thursday of each month in the Washington County Library. This month Im serving leftovers from my 1984 Bucyrus, Ohio, trip to the Sidesaddle Association convention. When I first wrote about it in April, 1985, I cut it too overnight. Other years they have gone up and back the same day but this year will be different, so call today to get your reservations confirmed. The bus will be going to Heatons ranch June 25 to spend the day. k This will be a picnic so bring your pot luck and your dishes and plan to stay until it cools off. Call soon to make reservations for through two Springfields on the trip. When I was ready to board the bus in Springfield, Virginia, I didnt have my ticket ready. The bus driver asked to see it, and I really had to scramble through my purse before it surfaced. In Springfield, Missouri, I saw some Amish people in a station for a lunch stop. They were traveling on another bus. I couldn't help but notice how colorless and bland all four were. Their clothes were black and navy blue. The two women wore white hats and the two men wore black whiskers. I haven't seen any Amish here in Southern Utah, but compared with those I saw in Missouri, our Colorado City people look like digestible cuisine served on a platter. The Heritage Writers Guild members keep encouraging me to write dialogue. I hadnt attuned myself on this trip to sample any conversation. I kept busy just trying to write a description of what I saw and did. However, I learned next time to load my plate with tantalizing talk soon after it is uttered. One of the members has also encouraged me to write about the history of the sidesaddle. That, of course, needs to wait for another meal. r by-pas- Eagle Scout Display Planned An Eagle Scout display, to honor Eagle Scouts, is in the planning stage.
