Be sure to attend the Junior Junior Prom or Post Prom and enjoy the decorations and music before it is all over for another year. The Junior Class sponsor would like to make an additional appeal to the community to support this activity. Each year the Junior Class spends a great deal of time and their own class funds to produce these lovely activities. Students are often criticized in the community for having no purpose, being lazy and not following through on projects. They have done an outstanding job on this years prom and should be recognized for their achievement. Your support in attending this event Saturday will show that you do care and are conce ned and it will help them to defray some of the expense. Discusses Classes, Center, Van The Fredonia Senior Citizen Board of Directors held their monthly meeting on Monday, March 25. Members Mildred Morrison, Mike and Helen Griffiths, Ivan and Eva Goodall, Gladys Brooksby, Myles Farr, Dart Judd and Georgia Heaton were present along with guests Pauline Hunt and Edith Holmes. President Mildred Morrison conducted. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved following one small correction. Edith Holmes talked about a Silversmithing class she had been asked to teach. There are several who wish to take the class. Edith suggested the class be delayed until the center is built. She thought a class could be better conducted if all needed equipment was in a place where it would be available any time of the day for those who wanted to use it. Needed equipment could be gathered and be there when the center is ready. This met with the board's approval. Edith will purchase some silver while the price is relatively low. Georgia Heaton, member of the town council, explained why there may be as long as a year before the van gets here. There are four vans, three of them are to be custom built with lifts and such. The vans are on contract so one cannot be given until all four are ready. There was an open discussion on the possibility of the town getting a sew er system. It was felt that one is really needed before any new construction can get underway, such as motels, etc. Fredonia is presently seventh on the grant list for a sewer system. When, and if, a grant is obtained the matter would have to be voted on by all W)h townspeople. Georgia told those present that month. If any April is town clean-uhelp is needed to haul away large items, the city employees will be available on April 26. She also said that permits are needed to burn trash after April 1st. She also said the senior citizens were asked to voice their opinions on getting the Justice of the Peace office back in Fredonia. Supervisor Seidel is working toward this and would appreciate their opinions. It would mean the office would be placed back in the county building. There was an open discussion concerning power. Georgia reported that the power rebate should be coming soon. The court has given the power company until the end of April to make payment. Pauline Hunt is the chairman of quilt making. There p newly-appointe- d State Bank builds Southern Utah communities in more ways than just offering banking services. was discussion on the why, how, where and when of quilting several quilts. These will be sold and the funds put toward items for the group. They want to do a full basement under the new center. The grant for the building will not cover the cost of a basement. It was decided that a drive will be made to ask people for cloth scraps or unused clothing. Other needed supplies will be purchased from the seniors fund. Pauline will get some other women to assist her in the quilt project. Everyone will then help with the piecing and quilting. Places to display and sell the quilts were discussed. This will be investigated and all ready to go as soon as the quilts are finished. Eva Goodall told of a day-lonseminar that all who can should attend. It is the Northern Arizona Gerontology Association meeting to be held on April 17 at NAU in Flagstaff. Georgia hopes to be able to attend. A list of Fredonia senior citizens was passed out. All the people on the list will be contacted and invited to attend the lunch on the 27th. g Pot-Luc- in Fredonia competition are I. to r.: first, David Elliott; second, Travis Evans; third, Jonathan Heaton, and car, Travis Chidister. After weeks of preparing their cars, with some help from dad and mom, ten contestants were on hand to see how well their cars performed. Every cub started on an equal basis with a hunk of wood, two axles and four wheels. They designed, whittled, weighted and painted until they came up with their car, which could not weigh over five ounces. On the big night of the race the track was set up and three judges, Landell Heaton, Roney Pratt and Lowell Hodgkinson, were on hand to judge the winners of each heat. Karen Heaton manned the score board. This event is very exciting and has many spectators, entire families take part. It is the one event that small children running about do not disrupt. After all the heats were run there were three winners that will take their cars to Kanab to compete next month, and one winner of the car. The winners of the race this year are: first place, David Elliott, Wolf Den; second place, Travis Evans, Weblos, and third place, Jonathan car Heaton, Bear. was voted on by all the boys and the winner is Travis Chidester.
