This could mean as much as $40.00 a year less on some home owners fire insurance. The inspection will cover such areas as hose and hydrant records, firemen training, fire hydrants, water pressure and equipment on hand. They will need to do a pumper test on the fire truck. This will mean running the pump for 25 to 30 minutes and will use lots of water. Dalton suggested pumping water from the swimming pool and returning it to the pool. To do this and to allow for annual tests in the future, a small opening would need to be cut in the pool fence so the hose would reach. This will be considered. Dalton asked if all the fire equipment was covered by insurance. The council was not sure, but clerk Kimball said it should be although some of the newer items purchased may not be listed yet. Clerk Kimball will check on it. Dalton said in checking fire phones he found the town had been paying for phones in Mike McKinley and Lowell Ford homes for several years. Clerk Kimball said they had recieved credit for this overpayment. Dalton disagreed, saying he had just learned the telephone company has fouled things up even worse, charging now for 4 phones that dont exist. Dalton asked the council to send a letter of appreciation to Terry Holliday. He helped test fire hoses as part of his Eagle Scout training. Dalton had several bids on batteries for the Jeep truck. Don Mackel-pransuggested Dalton contact the State land Dept. It might be they would have some they would give the Fire Department. This will be checked out. Dalton said the town should start thinking about a second truck in the future. With the possibility of town growth this should be considered. Dalton suggested a small monthly fee to home owners added to water bills like TV. This could be placed in a trust fund. He suggested it be voted on by the townspeople since it would be for their protection. Dalton said with the present population the Dept, was in pretty good shape. All they need is lighting equipment and a smoke ejector. The air equip 19-2- - 2-- males $5.00. These fees ended the discrimination against females. Lost and Found Bicycles Since there are several bicycles found each year that cannot be traced, if they have not been reported, it was suggested the town furnish small bike license plates that could be registered. These could be sold for the purchase price and would serve as a means of identification. The program could be handled by the police department. The council approved the plan and it could start as early as May. Ordinances No. 23 Ordinance No. 23 was adopted by the council. This sets limitations on firefighting. The radius of service will henceforth be one mile outside the city limits. The exception will be when there are written agreements otherwise, as there is with Kanab. Other Business Covered Mayor Harris asked that the old Fire Hose Wheel that Dave Rider gave the town be taken from the Tour West yard and stored somewhere. There was some discussion on what to do with the wheel. It should be restored, then used in parades. It was decided to store it at the city yard for the present i time. Don Mackelprang said they had been looking for a trencher machine that is needed for the pipeline from the springs to the storage site. New ones cost around $12,000.00. They have found a used one they could get for $6,000.00. It could be checked while it is in operation and if it looks good Don would like to buy it. The council passed a motion to buy it if it checks out. Charlie Glaspie has met with people on the landfill fees etc. This should all be taken care of and out of the way next week. A culvert will be delivered and should be put in soon on Aspen St. Street work should start next week and as soon as Aspen is brought up to grade it will be turned over to the town. Charlie said he had met with Pat and Sue Jensen concerning Ponderosa St. easements. No problem here and easement should be forth be worked out so it will not with the school ball practice. Repairs are being made on the park fence and a gate will be installed at the tennis court. Grants or funds for solar heat at the swimming pool are not available. Since the cost of fuel to heat the pool have gone so high a bond election was suggested as a means to get money for solar heating. Costs will be checked again. The annexed property has never been changed so the property is still listed in county. Until it is listed for the city revenue is being lost. Clerk Kimball will write and try to get the matter taken care of. A basketball hoop for the old tennis court will be installed soon. It will cost $400.89 and will be constructed by John Cram. The sewer lagoon site cannot be squared up as requested by Sherman Jensen. It is a natural reservoir that was obtained from the BLM for use as a sewer lagoon and thats all that it can be used for. A fence can be installed. The town will pay for the materials. Officer Cameron asked for around $50.00 to be used for trophies in a bicycle compet-atio- n and safety project sometime in May. The request was granted. Cameron also asked for a week and a half he had coming in comp. time. He plans on a trip to Oklahoma. With a weeks vacation he has earned he plans on being gone 2'2 weeks. Officers Cecil Cram, Keith Judd and Don Sarrells will help out if needed. A schedule will be work out with Reserve Officer Don Allen and Danny Bulletts. coming soon. Sage Lane needs some work but things need to dry up before much can be done. Charlie said he had talked with the State Engineer concerning the intersection at 389 and 89A. They only have a 40 foot exit. Some trucks do run up on the curb. The State felt 40 feet was sufficient but will keep a check on it. w Water Filter The State will not approve subdivisions until the town has installed a filter in the water system, and it is approved. Some subdivisions are ready to sell but cannot get state approval until the water filtration is taken care of. A filter system at the springs could cut the collection of water a lot. Oneprice for a filter system as the water goes into the tanks was quoted at $300,000.00. Grants and funds will be checked. The town sends water samples on a regular basis and none have failed to pass state standards. Clerk Kimball informed the council that County Supervisor Bill Brechan will be in town on the 24th for a question and answer session, at around 7:30. Larry White will be contacted concerning mosquitos and potential breeding areas. Charlie said all Chamber of Commerce funds from the county have been cut out as well as the money for the Northern Coconino County Fair. Charlie hopes to still have the Fair even if the county wont help. Ribbons are on hand, the book is self supported and if needed the money for the State Fair Booth could be used. Several ideas were discussed on ways of raising money. The council agreed to go along with trying for a Town Fair. Dixie Judd said a letter of appreciation would be sent to Weston Burch for the work he had done for the park as part of his Eagle Scout project. Prices of a cabinet were agreed on and one will be built for roller skates. The roller rink will open next, Thursday and be open once a week thereafter. Concession stand for softball and other things will be built with donated labor along with a ticket booth.
