At the last meeting, councilman Paul Jenkins moved that Western Satellites be awarded a franchise and pay a $2,000 deposit. The motion was subject to review by the City Attorney . a Ul ' Kiwanis Club Organized In Kanab ern Satellite Cable jr TTp-- JewdPv Thursday, December 10, Kanab may have two cable TV purveyors if those seriously moving in the direction carry out their plans. This was what looked eminent, as this past week two companies have been counng the city and have each been granted nonexclusive franchises to provide that service. A hearing was held to discuss a proposed policy declaration for the annexation of the City Park area into the city. The city was the oniy affected property owner present. Mayor Glazier says that the council presently favors annexing this area into the city. There is, however, a period for any protests. The proposed annexation area would include all the race track, the old rifle range, part of Canyon", the present water tanks and part of the Locklan Cram and Owen Cram properties. KCR Property owners, who have been working toward annexation of Kanab Creek Ranchos have continued workine on their goal. The city is feeling if KCR is annexed, the entire area from Kanab to the- Arizona border should be included. This would include all area south of Kanab to Arizona, including present owners in the area described as "down the lane." as well as those 30-da- y 0 - east of town in the area west of the old dump road. The Kanab City Planning Commission has drawn up some restrictions that they feel need to be considered when and if annexation of KCR becomes a reality. These will be studied by the city and the KCR property owners. Mayor Glazier feels that to annex the entire area would be a step in the right direction in that it would make planning for future growth much easier. He felt, however, that if such an action were taken, that those areas now in a Greenbelt designation should be allowed to stav as Elementary Christmas Play "The Best Part of Christmas Is.... will be the title of the Kanab Elementary Christmas program to be staged Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. in the high schixil gym. The council has decided to put Utah Power and Light on notice that the city does not intend to issue them a franchise to operate in Kanab at this time. The city still is of the feeling that they want to negotiate with UP&L for purchase of the local system and they would rather that UP&L not put in a great amount of improvements until negotiations could first take place. One of the biggest problems presently facing the city council is that of a garbage dump. The city has been asked to leave the present dump site by the first of the year, which is but three weeks away. The city has been negotiating with property owners east of the airport for access into some BLM land there that the city hopes eventually to open as a sanitary landfill. There is some dispute concening the old highway south of Kanab as to whether it is still a right of way or not. Mrs. Kimball advises that, according to the Arizona Revised Statutes, nominating petitions for the recall election can be picked up at the Town Office ninety days before the election. To make things more complicated for Mrs. Kimball at the Town Office, petitions for the regular primary elections for the community must be picked up and turned in on the same days. The statutes say that petitions can be taken out 105 days before the election and must be turned in 75 days before the election which works out to be the same days as the recall election.
