The Gunnison Bulldogs, 12-but the Cowboys pulled to a little closer margin by quarter's end, The second period featured lots of turnovers, but saw Kanab pull a little closer to the Wildcats. Region Eight showed quite well placing teams in first, second, third, fifth and seventh place. Milford was second. North Sevier third, Beaver fifth and Kanab placed seventh. Kanabs team had what would be considered a poor tournament. They finished the regular season with a 10-record and tied for first place in the Region with Milford. However, they faltered during the tournament, not being able to play consistent ball for four days. In their opening game they literally blew the St. Joseph Jays out of the George Albert Smith Fieldhouse in Provo, by n Wildcats began a game in an effort to protect their nine-poilead, and with that came a Cowboy press which showed positive effects for the Pokes. When the clock showed 4:11 remaining and for the first time since the opening whistle the score 1 was tied at following a steal by Wade Coleman and a slow-dow- nt full-cou- rt 51-5- basket. Almost every Kanab player got into the scoring column. In the second period Kanab outscored St. Joseph and did the same thing only worse in the third period, 24-led by Coleman with 10. The final period was the closest of the game when Kanab outscored the Jays 16 to 13. Kanab hit 29 field goals to Dave Crosby hits a short jumper during final game with Dugway. However, the official called a Kanab foul on the buzzer, and after time was gone Ken Jones hit two free throws to give the game. Gary Tigers a 58-5- 5 Glover led the Cowboys with 18 followed by Kris Glover with 15 and Ben Johnson with 14. Myers and Jones led the Tigers with 13 each. The following day, the story was much the same, but this time the final outcome was more to Cowboy fans liking. The Kanab team got behind again and found themselves bail to the playing catch-u- p final period. The final game found Kanab face to face with the Dugway Mustangs, and this was a game that the Cowboys . as well as their fans might well like to forget completely. Nothing went right for Kanab. It began with the Mustangs jumping to a quick 10-- 0 lead over the Cowboys and that was the downfall. Region rival Milford jumped to a 14-- 8 first period lead and then directed the way things went most of the evening. By intermission time they had a 4 lead over the Cowboys, in the outscoring them second period. Kanab did a good job on g Ken Jones by holding him to 13 for the evening, but Denny Myers and Kim Williams killed the shooting, Myers hitting 13 and Williams 12 for the evening. As the third period neared an end the Cowboys decided they were going to have to play a little "Catch up and they scored two more points than did the Tigers bringing the score to As the game moved into the final eight minutes Kanab put up a full court press which showed some effects. Perry Lewis got a basket for the Wildcats to bring them back to within one point, but that proved to be their last point of the game, and of the season, as the loser of this game was through. Kanab then went into a deliberate game and collected five of six free throws in the last minute to move to a 3 win. As the tournament moved into the final eight minutes for the two teams, Kanab began to press again, and it proved effective as the Pokes scored 10 straight points. However, the Mustangs countered with six straight and then it was a trade-poin- t affair until the last three minutes,' when Coach Hamblin again put all seniors in.
