Show WOULD consolidation BENEFIT THE SCHOOLS since the matter of the consol dation of the school districts of the county is up for consideration at a meeting to be held at the court fouse next saturday may 21 at 11 clock it is well to get as good an understanding as possible of the question under consolidation the school affairs of the county would be in the hands of five men elected by the people who would have the power to appoint a superintendent and do all other acts necessary to the manage ment of the schools there would be no local boards at our request bupt supt woodward tells in the following why he favors the proposition utah may 10 1910 editor emery county progress in response to your invitation to give to i our readers some reasons for lecorn mending to the county commissioners the consolidation of the school districts of this county will say in unity there is strength under consolidation the school inter ests of the county will be one the efforts of all will be directed to one common end the school property taxa tion will be equalized so that every child will receive equal privileges teach ers salaries can and will be adjusted so that teachers of equal ab lity will re cieve 1 ke salaries equal benefits can be given ta pupils in the matter of books and supplies school terms will be made uniform when at present some continue six months aa against others nine the cost of school supplies will no doubt ba cut down as greater quantities will be pi and these supplier will be handled to much better advantage it will make possible closer and more thorough supervision in music and art it will eliminate incapable teachers and raise te aching to a pro bession at present the corporate property of the county is unequally divided aenoi g the twelve districts and yet two other new districts are being petitioned for which if granted will further increase the conditions for unequal distribution under consolidation pupils can be transported to larger centers thus af fording greater benefits in gradation A stricter enforcement of the compel sory law will be secured this alone should appeal to any citi zen who is interested in the education of the children and who believes that it is the birthright of every american boy and girl to be given the opportunity tunit ies of a common school education at least after much thought upon this ques tion I 1 am fully convinced that b con soli dation we will raise the standard of education in this county and bring our boys and girls into conditions where they will reap the benefits of the better school facilities which have placed their fel ow pupil of the cities and ed counties ahead of them As the county comm ave called for a consideration of this ques tion on saturday may 21 at 11 clock a m at Cast ledale I 1 hope the trustees of the several districts and all interest ed parents or taxpayers will be in at and aid to this very im matter yours very truly D WOODWARD S bupt supt of schools emery co |
