Show Ground breaking Candidates urged to held for Kanab parsonage voice their opinions C7 i t tl rt Drawings sought for Utah Christmas seals Kids want sparkling white not polluted Christmases, snowflakes. They want fun with sleds and skis on snowy hills, not crippled lungs. What kids want and how they world is on full display on the 1975 Christmas seals. This year there are 54 Seals, created by children in see their the elementary grades from each state in the country, plus four Territories. Utahs Christmas Seal was painted by Christine Whetman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Whetman of Centerville, Utah. Christines drawing on the 1975 sheet of Seals will be mailed to over 260,000 homes and businesses in Utah with a special Christmas Seal contribution appeal letter. Contributions to Christmas Seals support important Utah Lung Association programs that battle against emphysema, asthma, tuberculosis and polluted air. In 1973 Utah art educators chose 5 drawings from hundreds of childrens artwork submitted in the Christmas Seal Design The five selections Project. were sent to Washington D.C. where the National Art Education Association chose Christines painting. This year the Utah Lung Association will again be selecting a childs Christmas drawing to represent Utah on the 1977 sheet of Christmas Seals. Children In kindergarten through third grade are eligible to enter their holiday paintings in the in the 1977 Christmas Seal Design Project. Primary grade teachers are encouraged to enter their classrooms work. If all primary grades in a school choose to participate, it is suggested that only the best paintings be submitted. The paintings should be mailed to the Utah Lung Association, 1616 South 11th East, Salt Lake City, Utah 84105, before December 20th. Drawings will be displayed in a Salt Lake City shopping mall during the holi- days. The design project is not a contest. Children should not be instructed to "design Christmas Seals, but rather to create an original holiday painting. A standard 18 by 24 inch paper should be used and only paintings done on a horizontal format can be accepted. With municipal elections just a couple of weeks away, local electors are reminded to make plans to get out and vote for the people of their choice. "The next few jears in this area are going to bring some decisions that will take people who are willing to ng spend much time, Mayor Claud Glazier of Kanab stated recently, in urging people to file for office. Seven people have filed for office in the coming Kanab C lty elections. Republicans on the November 4 ballot will include: Fred Brueck, Mardean Pugh, Demoand George Bunting. crats on the ballot will be: Whit Robinson, Errol Brown On and Betty VanDenBerghe. the American Independent party platform is Wilfred Edwards. To help inform local citizens, the Southern Utah News is extending the columns of this newspaper to these and candidates from other local communities to voice their opinions and to make statements of things that they would like to see done, or things that they will be working towards if elected. With only one more paper to be published before the elections, these statements will need to be published next week, October 30. So, we would ask those candidates runing for office to please submit their statements by next Monday, October 27. Mrs. Emllene Sanders, 57, of Tucson passed away Sunday at 10:15 p.m. of internal injuries which she sustained in a plane crash in House Rock Valley, October 12 at 9 a.m. Four other passengers in the plane escaped with minor injuries. The crash occurred as the plane piloted by Rowd Sanders was landing on a dirt landing strip. A gust of wind caught the plane and threw it into a rock pile some 300 feet distance. The other occupants were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Oberholser of Sacramento, Calif., and Willard Sanders, 25, son of the pilot and the dead woman. The Sanders maintain a ranch in Houserock Valley and each year they sfot the cattle from the air and radio the locations to the ranch house, from which the round-u- p operations commence. Mrs. Sanders body was taken to Tucson for burial.
